Happy Mother's Day, lovelies!

I'll tell you a million times over how amazing Mothers are, and you'll agree (even if she never let you keep her shiny heels that you did the fashion shows as a kid with! Can't just be me that did those..!)

But we also picked up much of their health and well being habits.

If your mum was progressive and looked after herself, you probably do too.

But, if like mine, her life was based on serving and pleasing others and neglecting herself for the comfort and happiness of others.. because that's how they were raised...

We do, too.

And it takes a LONG time to drop that conditioning.

(I'm pretty sure we don't ever drop it completely..)

I am hell bent on my daughter putting her health first in ANY life she chooses

And my son must too, but more so make space for the females around him to do so as well.

Because they've seen me do it.

Frequently and repeatedly

And they KNOW what they get out of it (especially when at 5ft1, I'm carrying them, at pretty much the same height and weight as me, through the huge hospital carpark and A&E!)

They deserve the mum who can manage her stress levels.

The mum who can look at herself with pride in all her achievements and love who and what she sees in the mirror.

The mum who teaches them to invest in themselves from the earliest possible time.
And not just for their education, career or more money

I get it, its not easy as full time working mums..

When I was working in a very busy and beloved banking role, I'd finish cleaning the kitchen after dinner and bedtime and then heading to the gym after they fell asleep just before 9pm.. just 3 times a week (even though the gym closed at 10pm!)

We already knew the responsibilities we had as mothers.. and it can sometimes feel like such a heavy load..

But for their sakes, and ours, let's not forget this one 🤗

I hope you all get spoiled today..

And I hope all the Mother's helpers (including the dads!) who make our lives and roles that little bit easier... also get a ton of appreciation too!

Years ago, when the family was hungry, they picked veg/ fruit from their gardens or travelled to local markets to buy ingredients. Then, they cooked it into meals when they got home.
🤳 Now, you order food in minutes from an app on your phone.

Then, the only way you could buy goods for your home or school bits for your kids was to go into town and carry it home.
🤳 now you get on an app or website, and hey presto, it's here within 24 hours or, even same day delivery

If you wanted to watch a television series in the 80s, you waited a WHOLE week for each episode.
🤳 now you can watch an entire series in one 24-hour binge episode after sleep chasing episode.

If you needed to do some research for work or homework, you had to physically travel to a library or museum or go and see a knowledgeable specialist in person.
🤳 now you have Google

If you needed to submit an essay or document for work or qualifications, you stayed up for weeks on end writing notes and typing it all up constantly checking word counts, grammar, and spellings.
👨‍💻 now you get ChatGPT to do it ALL for you. And even cross-check facts and plagiarism 😶

It ALL got too EASY.

And it made us f*cking lazy.

And now you think your BODY AND HEALTH should follow suit?

Be able to change it at the click of a few buttons?

Heck, no.

I'm taking no pleasure in bursting this bubble because I wanted it to be that easy too!
But it isn't.

And I know you'd rather have the no BS than the fake promises from pills, surgery, and sh*tty trends that sell you dreams for a quick result and an even quicker buck.

To LAZY PEOPLE.

I've spoken to 5 people in the last 2 weeks who have contemplated & researched liposuction, tummy tucks, and gastric bands/sleeves.

So you know it's a problem.
But you want it fixed FOR you.
Delivered TO you.
Whilst you lie there.
Or pop a few caplets and minimise eating hours

Whilst it breaks my heart to hear this kind of thing from intelligent people, you can't afford to think like that.

You're absolutely going to pay for shortcuts later.
I've been doing this body transformation thing long enough to see it time and time again!

Put in the HARD now - enjoy the EASY later

Those niggles..

Over 40, many people tell me they feel like they are living in the creaky, squeaky body of a 70 year old..

(No disrespect to the over 70s!)

And for women, my gosh the varying symptoms of menopause... enough to drive us 🤪

My client, Deena was 49.
Perimenopausal with 3 children
She also worked full time and though at a senior level, she found she was seeing it as "just a job"

She also had frequent sciatic pain and sometimes it was enough to make less than great sleep, (night sweats) worse..

She was going to the gym and her middle daughter often joined her and though it was time she enjoyed, she realised her body pump and conditioning classes weren't giving her results.

She enjoyed drinks from Friday to Sunday and was highly sociable - loved dressing up but hated how frustrated she got when choosing what to wear before heading out because everything "looked so awful ".

As we began to work together.. she started up about her real desires and dreams.

Those that had been tucked away for years whilst she got through the early mum years and then the later big exam years and supporting her husband in his career progressions and even a city move.

She had ALL this potential and nowhere to use it and show it.

And it showed up in the way she fought against sleeping well.
Fought against moderation in her drinking
Fought against her mindless evening snacking and weekend boredom eating.

She was unfulfilled and even her niggly knee and hip issue were in on the action.

Once we worked out, through coaching, what she wanted, deep down, we worked on the confidence to speak it out loud to herself and then to her husband

Supportively, he made space for her, and she no longer felt she had to hide and suppress herself.

Guess what?

Her eating habits improved.
She had a spring back in her step
And the training I set up to help her issues began to yield improvements until she couldn't even remember the last time she complained about the pains.

Even the drinking was curbed.

And in the subsequent months, 8kg pretty much fell off.

Not because of the calorie deficit.

But because we worked out why she REALLY couldn't apply the habits to put her in a deficit!

Magic happens when you realise that your body is a direct AND indirect result of your mind and how it thinks and behaves in various situations like this.

So take a look at yourself, your thoughts, your dreams, and even your traumas and past experiences... what have you been suppressing that's showing up in and on your body today?

NOT MY BEFORE AND AFTER
I thought about not posting it because I didn't want to show my growing insecurities in this next phase of my body journey...
But let's be real, to be better, we have to go through certain processes and phases that we find tough!
Hi, I'm Tej, and I used to be lean.
Did I ever think I'd be lean? Growing up as chubby teen and young woman, no!
Did I set out to be? Also, no! I sought to help my PND.
Did I fall in love with the process of pushing myself out of my comfort zone physically? YES YES YES!
But I also fell in love with being able to wear anything I wanted for the first time in my life, feeling strong, confident, and LOVING it.
And then I decided I wanted to push my build a better shape. I wanted more muscle tone.
How does that happen...?
By ACTUALLY embracing the left, not just talking about it.
I'll admit, I'm not 100% body confident at already 8kg up at the moment and guess what?
That's teaching me, again, so much more about myself than getting and staying lean did over the last 6 years!
I'm reminding myself daily of the fact that this is only a PART of my whole process and not my end goal so I will do my best to enjoy the benefits that come with it.
More food.
Less activity (though this one I find super tough because I hate sitting still!)
Learning that I make better choices on more food because I like to, not because I "have to".
Because last week when my post lockdown announcement big online shopping haul arrived, most of it had to be sent back as it didn't fit the happy way things used to.. and instead of getting upset about it like I used to, I laughed all the way to post office!
I don't put my goals upon any of my Warriors - they are on their own journeys for their own reasons and I'm thrilled to be helping them with those (since quite a few of my latest calls have been telling me "I dont want to look like you now, I like the way you looked back then..." 😜)
And that's ok, because I'm going to take you on my journey all the way round to full circle so you can understand the WHOLE process 😉!
The good, and the uncomfortable!

IT'S TOUGH
This mug no longer exists (lockdown 3's first casualty) but the message totally does.
I am receiving (present tense) a ton of messages per day from women, mums, asking me how I manage to fit in my workouts with my work, running a very busy business and house and the fun that is homeschooling.
VALID question!
Honest answer?
Currently, wherever I can in my day.
Because genuinely, this workout can determine how much love and life there is in this house!
Before you get all judgey, hear me out!
The levels of love are being constantly questioned with the stresses of getting work done in an environment the kids really don't want to be schooled in. They miss their teachers. Their playgrounds and friends. Their old, working routines.
SO DO WE.
That lifting session I fit in when the "main" batch of work is done, helps me to keep my head in place when my 6 year old is refusing to put that pencil on his paper or explain how he got to an answer, and then swipe all the work to the floor in frustration.
It reminds me I'm their mum. And I love them despite their major attempts to convince me otherwise!
And because I've had that break from it for an hour, I can coax (read bribe) them into finishing off the final bits before I start/continue my own work Iate into the evenings.
I could do it first thing in the day but for me, having that late afternoon session, right now, breaks up OUR day when we all REALLY need it!
IF however, you find you regularly talk yourself out of it later in the day, place it at the top of the day before it all begins so you don't let that happen.
Not because you have to work out, but because you will very much find you are a much more patient and focused parent/
Employee after it.
Plus, hello endorphins giving us all the good vibes!
This is an ANCHOR for your day.
What's your anchor for your lockdown daily routine and when are you finding it best to workout?

FIBRE UP TO SUPERSIZE YOUR FATLOSS
That got your attention, right?
Well I'm kind of not joking!
One thing I notice is that a lot of the people I speak to suffer with digestive issues and the lack of regularity in the emptying of their bowels.
Now, we could in essence say they are full of sh*t... but not the lovelies I get to converse with! 😉
This one is down to a distinct lack of fibre in their diet because so much of their diet consists of ultra processed food and not enough of the less processed sources!
How does this help with fat loss? Because having the right amount of fibre in your diet means your food is slower to pass through your intestines and digestive tract - therefore more time to absorb all the good stuff from the great food choices you are making.
This then translates into increased satiety, with improved nutrient absorption and less of a chance of you getting those pesky little hunger pangs and the need to fall into the hugely processed snack drawer at 3pm.
Also, the improved nature of your loo patterns mean less bloating and discomfort too!
What's your goal?
As a woman 25-30g is ideal, for a man, 35-40g per day.
As a little check last week, I tracked my food choices and across 10 days, without even targeting it, I had been hitting between 28-35g of fibre on 9 of them!
So I guess you could say I'm kind of NOT full of 💩, just to confirm! 🤣
.
Is it tough to get to those levels in a fat loss phase? Not with the RIGHT food choices but your body will very much let you know if it's feeling a bit.... stuck!
At which stage, you may want to look at increasing your green veg, beans and lentils OR go to the good old Psyllium Husk to help things along in a natural way!
