Lesson One - You Can't Please Everyone

Many of us spend years trying.

Being the good employee. The good parent. The good friend.

Yet no matter what we do, someone may still be disappointed.

can help us explore , people-pleasing patterns and the fear of letting others down.

One of life's most important lessons?

Being liked by everyone is impossible. Being true to yourself is achievable.

๐Ÿ“š Welcome Back to the School of Life

September often feels like a new beginning.

Children head back to school. Diaries start filling up. Routines return.

But while schools teach maths, science and history, life teaches lessons of its own.

Some lessons are joyful. Some are painful. Some seem to repeat until we're ready to learn from them.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be exploring some of life's biggest lessons and how counselling can help us navigate them.

Because unlike school, nobody gives us a handbook for relationships, anxiety, grief, change, self-worth or resilience.

Yet somehow we're expected to figure it all out.

What has life been teaching you recently?

A New Season

As summer begins to fade and autumn approaches, nature reminds us that endings and beginnings often arrive together.

The changing colours, cooler mornings, and falling leaves aren't signs that life is ending.

They're signs that life is adapting.

Perhaps you are too.

Maybe this season is bringing changes you didn't choose.

Maybe it's bringing opportunities you weren't expecting.

Either way, remember:

You don't have to have everything figured out.

You only need to take the next step.

๐Ÿ‚ Trust the season you're in.

What are you hoping to carry with you into this next chapter?

Take a moment today to acknowledge how far you've already come.

Small Changes Matter

When people think about change, they often imagine major life events.

A new job. A move. A relationship ending.

But sometimes the biggest shifts begin with the smallest steps.

Getting out for a walk.

Attending a counselling session.

Choosing rest instead of pushing through.

Speaking to yourself with kindness.

Small changes create new pathways.

๐ŸŒฑ Lasting growth rarely happens all at once.

What's one small thing you can do for yourself today?

**Life Reflection: What You See in Others Often Reflects What's Happening Within You**

Have you ever noticed that the qualities we admire or dislike in other people can sometimes tell us more about ourselves than they do about them?

The person you see as confident may reflect a part of yourself that wants to be braver. The person who frustrates you may be highlighting something you struggle with in your own life.

This doesn't mean every opinion we have is wrong. It simply invites us to pause and ask ourselves a powerful question:
"What is this reaction teaching me about me?" ๐Ÿค”

Self-reflection isn't always comfortable, but it can be one of the greatest tools for personal growth. The more we understand ourselves, the more compassion we often find for others.

Next time someone triggers a strong reaction in you, take a moment to look inward before looking outward. There may be a valuable lesson waiting there.

**Reflection:** What you notice in others can sometimes be a mirror showing you something about yourself.

The Space Between

There is a period in every transition where you're no longer who you were, but not yet who you're becoming.

It can feel uncomfortable.

Confusing.

Uncertain.

But this in-between space is often where the most important growth happens.

Think of a caterpillar in its chrysalis.

Transformation isn't visible at first.

Yet change is taking place beneath the surface.

๐Ÿฆ‹ Just because you can't see progress doesn't mean nothing is happening.

Can you trust yourself a little more during this in-between season?

Comment with a โค๏ธ if you're learning to embrace uncertainty.

Lessons from the Seasons

Nature never apologises for changing.

Trees don't cling to leaves that are ready to fall.

Flowers don't bloom all year.

The seasons teach us something important:

Change is not failure. Change is part of life.

Yet many of us judge ourselves when we're not in a productive, blooming season.

What if this chapter isn't asking you to do more?

What if it's asking you to let go?

๐Ÿ Autumn reminds us that releasing what no longer serves us can be an act of trust.

What are you holding onto that might be ready to be released?

Double tap if you needed this reminder today.

When Children Leave Home

No one talks enough about the transition parents experience when children become adults.

After years of school runs, packed lunches, and daily routines, the house can suddenly feel quieter.

Pride and grief often sit side by side.

You can be excited for their independence and still miss the role you've held for so many years.

This isn't a sign you're struggling to let go.

It's a sign that something mattered deeply.

๐Ÿ‚ Every stage of parenting asks us to release the old version and adapt to the new one.

What would it look like to honour this transition rather than rush through it?

If you're experiencing an empty nest or a changing family dynamic, know you're not alone.

To Every Parent Feeling the Pressure

If you didn't create a magical Pinterest summer...

If every day wasn't packed with activities...

If your children had snacks, screen time, and the occasional "figure it out yourselves" day...

You're doing just fine.

Children rarely remember perfect days.

They remember feeling loved, safe, and supported.

And that's enough.
