Diversity is key to creativity.

"...you can throw money at trying to entice new or different audiences into theatre, but why should they come unless they see themselves reflected on stage and in every aspect of a theatre or company’s work? At last we are waking up to the fact that diversity has real value: it doesn’t just ensure survival, it can genuinely invigorate arts organisations and be a spur to creativity and new ways of thinking."

It's also important to us to encourage writers of every gender, ethnicity, age, social and cultural background to be heard, so that in the future we won't talk about writers or creatives being radical simply because they are not white or male.

http://www.theguardian.com/stage/theatreblog/2015/feb/26/female-playwrights-national-theatre

At the National Theatre and beyond, female playwrights’ work is still frequently hived off in smaller spaces and slapped with the ‘radical’ tag. Are our leading theatrical institutions built on suspect foundations?
