ISHA - The Hip Preservation Society Our vision is to be the premier international society for education and research in hip preservation

ISHA – The Hip Preservation Society is an international organisation which is focused on hip preservation surgery to enhance patient care and outcomes, through the delivery of training, education, support of research, sharing of knowledge and best practice, fostering global collaboration and provision of patient and professional information to improve hip care. Our mission is to create “healthy hi

ps” by bringing hip preservation, prevention and treatment to all people regardless of age, social status, gender or economic situation. Our vision is a world with equitable access to quality treatment and the best achievable patient outcomes through improved access to appropriate treatment, early intervention, prevention and education, with the goal of us living in a world where hip joint replacement is only an occurrence of old age. ISHA’s purpose is to advance, enhance, and raise awareness of the field of hip preservation, to facilitate early intervention to improve patient outcomes.

Title of Study: Treatment of Patients With Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome Using a Pelvic Tilt-Focused Exercise Program: A Prospective Cohort.

Authors: Hoit G, Whelan DB, Dwyer T, Hogg-Johnson S, Chahal J, Davis AM.

Journal Reference: Am J Sports Med. 2026 Jun 17:3635465261454648. doi: 10.1177/03635465261454648. Epub ahead of print. PMID: 42311003.

This prospective cohort study evaluated the effect of a pelvic tilt–focused exercise program for patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome managed nonoperatively.

The program targeted modification of hip mechanics through improved pelvic control, movement patterns, and functional rehabilitation strategies.

Patients demonstrated significant improvements in pain, hip function, and patient-reported outcome measures following participation in the exercise program with 78% avoiding surgery.

The findings suggest that addressing dynamic contributors to impingement, rather than focusing only on structural anatomy, may provide meaningful symptom improvement for selected patients.

A structured, individualized rehabilitation approach may serve as an effective initial treatment option for FAI syndrome and may help identify patients who require further intervention

Title of Study: Femoral Version Measurements Vary Significantly Between Commonly Used Methods: Implications for Defining Diagnostic Thresholds

Authors: Vorimore C, Smit K, Rakhra K, Tien-Yueh Schneider M, Beaulé P, Speirs A, Grammatopoulos G.

Journal Reference: Am J Sports Med. 2026 May 11:3635465261439081. doi: 10.1177/03635465261439081. Epub ahead of print. PMID: 42116605.

This study investigated variability in femoral version measurements across commonly used imaging and calculation methods, highlighting differences that may affect clinical interpretation.

The authors found that femoral version values can vary significantly depending on the measurement technique, with important implications for diagnosing femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and hip instability.

Differences between methods may lead to inconsistent classification of patients near diagnostic thresholds and influence surgical decision-making.

The study emphasizes the need for standardized measurement techniques and careful interpretation of femoral version in the context of overall hip morphology and patient symptoms.

Clinicians should consider measurement method variability when evaluating hip preservation patients, as relying on a single threshold may result in inaccurate diagnosis or treatment selection

🚨 Deadline extended to 25 August 2026!

Every great surgical tool started as a sketch on a napkin. Do you have a concept that could simplify a portal, improve a suture, or track a patient’s recovery? A special technique you wish to share? A prototype sitting in your lab? A digital solution the world hasn't seen?

As part of the ISHA 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting in Bruges, we invite you to participate in the "Alchemist’s Lab" - an Innovation Fair looking for the most forward-thinking ideas in the field of hip preservation. This is a "No-PowerPoint Zone" - we want to see your prototypes, your 3D-printed models, and your disruptive ideas!

The challenge: You will have 5 minutes to convince our Innovation Jury and the ISHA audience that your innovation is the future. We want to see your passion!

In keeping with the ISHA 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting's theme "From Roots to the Sky", we want delegates to leave Bruges with their eyes firmly on the pioneering advancements of the years to come. The future of the hip starts in the Alchemist’s Lab. Will you lead the way?
