The lines you notice when you smile are less about movement and more about what's happening underneath.
Our beautiful patient came to us about the creasing that appeared across her cheeks when she smiled, which is one of the most common things people raise with me and one of the most misunderstood.
Collagen and elastin break down gradually from your mid-twenties onwards, so the skin loses the strength and recoil that used to let it fold and spring straight back.
At the same time, the fat pads in the cheek lose volume and start to descend, so there's less support beneath the skin and more of it to gather when the muscles contract.
Put those two things together and a movement your face has always made suddenly leaves a mark.
Which is why treating this properly means addressing both. Restoring support in the midface gives the skin something to sit over again, and biostimulators work by encouraging your own collagen production rather than adding volume, so the improvement builds progressively.
Alongside that, laser and energy-based treatments strengthen the skin itself, which is what stops those creases setting in as permanent lines over the years to come.
If this is something you're starting to notice, book a consultation, and we'll look at the structure and the skin quality together and tell you honestly where to start 💌
