Contemplating my 39th lap around the sun from the top of Stairway to Heaven… looking forward to the memories I’ll be making in my 40th!

We did it!!!
We went beyond our fundraising target, and I smashed my first ever 15k Tough Mudder yesterday! 🤩💪🏽

What a surreal experience it was! The obstacles were so fun, and the views breathtaking! 😻 It was actually a course of over 17km, mostly uphills and downhills (deadly steep either way), but so peaceful among those woods! 🌳

Favourite obstacles:
🐒 Funky Monkey
🗻 Mudderhorn
💦 Shawshanked
🪢 D**g Dangler
🪜 Stairway to Heaven

Featured in the videos:
🐉 The Block Ness Monster
🕋 Skidmarked
🥶 Arctic E***a (pt 1)
🥶 Arctic E***a (pt 2) ❄️🧊

The best part was having Jamie cheering for me. One day he’ll understand he’s the reason why I did this in the first place.

Meanwhile, thanks everyone for making this possible and supporting ! 💚🙏🏽

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me in this challenge! 🙏🏽

It has given me the chance to raise awareness on preeclampsia, while motivating me to set an endurance-based goal for myself in my pursuit of long term health.

Hopefully, I have also inspired other survivors to improve their lifestyle and fitness along the way.

We have SMASHED our fundraising target two weeks ahead of schedule, and I couldn’t feel more ready to also smash this 15k Tough Mudder on Sunday at 11am! 💪🏽

The weather is going to be awful, but it wouldn’t be a real challenge otherwise, right?!?

See you guys all in the mud!!!

Proudly showing off my JustGiving badge for being in the top 50% fundraisers for the Tough Mudder.

Another badge to brag about: target achieved!

Target achieved!

Will my Altra Running W Lone Peak 9+ survive the Tough Mudder?!? I’m afraid I’ll have to go “fish” them after block ness… 😰🤞🏽

This is WHY I’m running a 15k Tough Mudder next Sunday!

⚡️ Eclampsia, from the Greek éklampsis, meaning “lightening”, describes the experience of a sudden seizure (or a set of seizures) in pregnancy, often with fatal consequences.

💥 Preeclampsia, literally, “what precedes eclampsia”, is the name of the pregnancy complication that causes eclampsia, if left untreated.

🌪️ While we don’t know the exact cause, there are precise warning signs to watch out for, that can help diagnose the condition and improve the outcome (all explained in the post).

😵‍💫 One afternoon in my third trimester, my vision became so blurry that I could only see spirals in front of me. I was waiting for my train at the platform, and didn’t know what to do, so I jumped on my train when it arrived, closed my eyes, and tried to control my breathing, hoping for the best. My blood pressure came down, and I made it home safely. About 10 days later I got diagnosed with preeclampsia, and months later I found out that what I had experienced that day could have led me to a stroke or seizure.

😶‍🌫️ I can’t help but think of how lucky I was that day! How different the outcome could have been for me and my child. And how grateful I am for keeping both of us safe and alive—also thanks to my healthy lifestyle and fitness levels.

🌸 Now it’s my turn to give back!

They slowly grow inside of you, and you start adapting—not only physically, but mentally and emotionally, too.

As your organs move to make room for a growing creature, so your brain structure and chemistry change to support your new role as a mother. Your ability to plan and juggle commitments also increases.

Then they start growing outside of you, and your physical, mental and emotional skills rapidly expand to a level you’d never imagined possible.

🌸 MAY IS PREECLAMPSIA AWARENESS MONTH 🌸

✨ On 10 May, I’m running a 15k Tough Mudder to support Action on Preeclampsia, and celebrate what I risked losing. My hope is to be part of the change I want to see. Pregnancy should be something to look forward to, not be afraid of!

This is the reason why physical, mental, and emotional strengths are interrelated.

You should always use one to support and increase the other two.

Speaking of which…

✨ I’m so proud to announce we’ve hit the fundraising target! ✨

💚 Thanks everyone for your contributions to Action on Preeclampsia! 💚

It really feels like a dream coming true to me!

2️⃣ Weeks and 2️⃣ days till my 15k Tough Mudder. Let’s goooo!!! 💪🏽

Grateful for every sunrise, every breath of fresh air, every quiet reminder that this planet sustains us.

Today, and every day, may we treat Earth with the respect and care it deserves.

💚 Happy everyone! 💚

Years ago, I used to prep athletes to join the military, and pull-ups were always the main struggle.

3 things helped them more than anything:

✨ Accessory work. Lots of back strengthening exercises.

✨ Technique work (CNS conditioning). D*ad hangs, scapular retraction, negative pull-ups, etc.

✨ Volume. A combination of machine assisted pull-ups (to facilitate the movement across the entire ROM) and banded pull-ups (to ease the movement at the bottom while making it challenging at the top).

As an extra, I used to encourage them to VISUALISE the movement from first and third person POVs, also to FEEL the muscles contracting and relaxing.

My training method was based on my personal experience, and what took me to learn my first pull-up (in my early 30s, because pull-ups weren’t really “my thing” earlier on). I developed it into a free guide, that is still downloadable on my website (link in bio, if you’re interested).

My PB used to be 17 strict pull-ups at 55kg, and I was working towards 20, before getting pregnant. So don’t let stats intimidate you, if you’re a woman: it might be harder but it’s still very possible to improve your pull-ups!

Happy new week everyone!

Just sharing what I look like at the moment.

🟠 I haven’t dieted or trained intensely yet.

🟡 I haven’t slept well in months, obviously, and I haven’t weighed myself in weeks (last time I checked, I was about 10kg heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight). And I’ve lost quite a decent amount of muscle mass and strength.

🟢 My current priority is Jamie’s health, anything else comes second.

🔵 Do I like what I see? Not really. Do I care? Even less. What I do care for, is recuperating all the strength I’ve lost (pull-ups and press-ups have been so challenging!) and maintaining a good life balance, that allows me to keep training hard while prioritising my baby. I know muscle will grow back as soon as I improve sleep and nutrition… 19 years of consistent lifting don’t just disappear overnight!!!

🟣 I’ve been posting my training sessions in my stories. If you’ve been watching them, you’ll probably know I’ve been focusing on injury prevention and core rehab (as it should be).

🔴 Let me know if you’d like to see some more content like this.
