Adults wake in the night too… we just don’t remember it 🤍
We roll over, get comfy, and drift back off.

Babies? They wake and think…
“Wait… where did everything go?”

If they fell asleep with help, they often need that same help to resettle.

That’s where sleep associations come in ✨

These are things your baby associates with going to sleep- breastfeeding, rocking, patting, shushing, being held. If the always need these things to sleep then it’s hard for them and you to understand why they can’t just stay asleep.

Big developmental changes like language, imagination & new fears can disrupt sleep. Add in growing independence (hello boundary testing 👀) and shifting awake times… and bedtime can get tricky.

✨ A few gentle tips:
• Keep bedtime consistent every night
• Offer comfort, no new habits
• Try increasing awake time (around 5.5–6 hrs is commonly needed by now)
• Set clear, calm boundaries (only 1 bedtime story, not 2)
• Focus on connection during the daytime
• Consider a night light if needed from 2.5yrs onwards

This phase is so normal, but it can feel exhausting. We are here to help you out 🤍

Bath time is more than just getting clean! It helps the body wind down for rest. You might not bath your kids everyday (which is totally normal by the way- mine bath every 2-3 days) but on the days you do bath them take note of how their sleep is affected in positive ways. You might notice that story time is calmer and they require less support to go to sleep. Or you might notice they have longer more consolidated chunks of sleep. 🫧

1️⃣ Routines for naps and night time sleep. Trying to get into a rigid schedule is like trying to fill a bucket with a hole in the bottom- pointless and frustrating! Your baby is meant to wake up frequently to feed. Their sleep system is still immature and they are only just starting to produce melatonin (sleepy hormone) and develop a circadian rhythm (day and night sleep cycles). Sleep is going to be all over the place and it’s totally normal! Respond to sleep cues, lean into contact naps and embrace going with the flow.

2️⃣ “Spoiling” your baby by picking them up and letting them contact nap or fall asleep on the boob/bottle. This is NOT a thing so stop worrying. Your newborn has spent most of their life curled up in your safe warm tummy with the sound of your heart beat and your scent all around them. In the 4th trimester this is all they want to continue to do. You won’t cause any lasting habits during this time so don’t miss out on this special window.

3️⃣ A clean house like you used to have. The dishes can wait a couple more hours and the laundry can wait until tomorrow. Seriously. You’ll only stress yourself out trying to do and be everything. Just be a potato on the couch with your little baby. That’s enough for now.

4️⃣ Bouncing back… take the pressure off yourself! Your body has grown an entire human and a whole new organ (placenta) AND you are going through huge hormonal changes and learning how to keep a little person alive and loved. Give yourself a break and use this time to recover, rest, and refuel❤️

5️⃣ Going out everyday or being the best at feeding your baby! So what if there is someone on instagram who can pump 1L of breast milk a day?!..that’s not most people. So what if there are mums going out to classes and walks already but you actually just feel like being at home?! that’s not most people… what you see on social media or have pop up on WhatsApp groups can make you set unrealistic expectations of yourself or your baby. You do you! Let me do them! 🫶🏼
