A while back Sam hit me up on Tattoodo wanting “something like a tree with roots in a fantasy/mystical style with shading.”
After letting the ideas simmer, digging into symbolism and sketching a ton, this surreal black-and-grey piece came together.
A barren tree rises from a small floating fragment of rock or earth, with v***r/steam drifting upward from its base like it’s ascending. The trunk coils and twists like a serpent in motion, reaching skyward. Leafless branches spread in every direction, cradling a central sphere radiating dot-work energy—maybe a sun, an enigmatic orb, or that inverted “negative light” concept. A flock of birds sweeps in from the top right, adding motion and a sense of convergence.
Possible layers of meaning:
• The floating rock + rising v***r → detachment from the mundane, spiritual elevation, or resilience when foundations feel unstable
• Serpent-like trunk → transformation, renewal, healing, kundalini rising, or growth through winding paths
• Barren branches + central radiant sphere → endurance through cycles of loss/rebirth, inner light breaking through darkness, balance of opposites
• Approaching birds → freedom, soul journey, hope drawing near, or positive forces gathering around one’s core
