Sepsis Awareness Update

Sepsis is back in the news again, and it’s something many people don’t recognise early enough.
It can start from an infection and may look like a common illness at first, which is why it can be easy to miss.

Early symptoms can include:• Feeling very unwell or unusually tired• Fever or feeling very cold and shivery• Muscle aches• Nausea or not wanting to eat• Breathlessness or confusion (in more serious cases)

On their own, these symptoms don’t usually mean sepsis. What matters is if things are getting worse, not improving, or just don’t feel right.

If you’re concerned, trust that instinct and seek medical advice. You don’t need to wait for every symptom to appear.

In the UK, sepsis affects around 245,000 people a year and contributes to around 48,000 deaths. Early recognition really matters.

The UK Sepsis Trust has simple, helpful resources if you want to learn more.
