It’s been 27 months since I had my rainbow baby and it has been very hard being at home. It was a struggle getting and staying pregnant. And it seems going from one to two kids whilst trying to keep it all together is also a struggle. With my first I had mild postnatal depression and with my little boy it’s been a very different experience but in some ways I’ve struggled more. There is no time for mindfulness with you’re a stay at home mom. You find yourself parenting most of the time apart from when you actually get to sleep. I suppose each time we tried to conceive I wanted it really badly, was desperate for a child, and it never occurred to me that I would be sad or depressed once the baby came. The lesson is to take it day by day and to realise all of the emotions, during every chapter of the process of having a baby, is valid and important and a learning experience. And despite what social media might suggest there is no such thing as perfection in parenting. We are all struggling in way or another.

It would be interesting to see what others’ experiences were as I often have friends who are trying to conceive ask me this.
