Having been an Audiologist for over 3 decades I really do know ears but techniques and guidelines change so I regularly attend lectures and courses to keep my knowledge up to date.

Today I spent the day back in the classroom in Rotherham ensuring my knowledge and practical irrigation skills are tip top so I can continue offering you all safe and effective syringing within the scope of current NICE guidelines 👂👂

Another day and another foreign object removal!

This builder regularly itches his ears with twigs whilst on his tea break 🫣 Well today for the first time in the 40 years he has been doing it the twig snapped 😯He tried using another twig and that one snapped too 😲 so his mate tried to pull it out with a pair of long headed pliers!!😱😱

One call to Sofina Ear Care and a quick emergency appointment this afternoon he was on his way again knowing how lucky he was not to damage his eardrum and promising to never put anything smaller than his elbow in his ear again! 💪🏻👂

❓Quiz: Have a guess how long this cotton bud tip has been in my patients ear ⁉️

This was the second ear bud I removed this week!

The first was still white as had only gone in the ear the night before but this one was wax coated. This lady had been to the GP the day after it went In and was told the ear was clear 🫣 She has been to multiple health care professionals since as could feel something in there and has had multiple ear infections but everytime she has been told her ear was clear!! 😳

When I looked in there I thought there was just a lump of wax but could just about make out some cotton wool fibres on the video otoscope which is highly magnified.

Using a specialised tool I gently removed the lump which was indeed a cotton bud tip which she lost in there…..5….. yes 5 ….. years ago!!

Another satisfied customer! 👂👂

This is why we say nothing bigger than your elbow to go into your ear!
Your eardrum is very fragile and has an important job in both hearing and infection protection 👂👂

⭐️Award Nomination ⭐️

Wow I had this wonderful email today from the British Society of Audiologists saying I have been nominated for a people’s choice award.
I do not know who has nominated me or why but I cannot express how grateful I am that someone has taken the time to do this for me. Regardless of the outcome I am humbled to get the nomination for doing the work I love.

Great to see sign language courses being offered locally. Even learning a few basic signs to use with deaf people who communicate only through sign makes a world of difference to them 👏👂👂
