For a long time, I ran my life through other people.
Not because they asked me to, but because I needed their approval.
Before making decisions, I’d ask family. I’d ask friends. I’d explain my reasons and wait for the nod, the reassurance, the “yes, that’s the right thing to do.”
Deep down, I was searching for a gold star. Permission. Validation that I was making the right choice.
The problem was, when you live that way, your life starts being shaped by other people’s opinions rather than your own truth.
What I eventually realised is that no one else is living my life. No one else is walking in my shoes, carrying my experiences, or raising my children.
And so I stopped looking outside of myself for answers.
Now, I make decisions based on what feels aligned for me. What honours my values. What supports my wellbeing. What is best for me.
That doesn’t mean I never seek advice. It means I no longer seek approval.
There is a huge difference.
The freedom that comes from trusting yourself is something I wish everyone could experience.
Have you ever found yourself looking for permission from others before making a decision?
