A little thing I notice quite a lot…

Women are incredibly good at adapting.

Quietly.

Without even realising they’re doing it.

Things like:

• sitting a certain way because one side feels uncomfortable

• always crossing your legs before coughing or sneezing

• avoiding certain clothes because they press on an area that feels tight

• planning around periods

• knowing exactly where the nearest toilet is

• moving differently because something feels stiff, tight or pulls

Over time these little adjustments quietly become normal.

Not because your body is “fine”.

Sometimes simply because you’ve got used to working around it.💛

One of the biggest lightbulb moments I see in clinic is when women realise:

“I didn’t even notice I’d started doing that.”

And sometimes noticing it…is where things start changing.

A lot of women quietly put up with things because they assume:

“That’s probably normal.”

Or:

“That’s just getting older.”

“That’s what happens after having children.”

“That’s just my body now.”

But sometimes things become so common…

we stop questioning them.

💛

Things like:

• leaking when coughing or sneezing

• scar pulling years after surgery

• pain around ovulation

• hips or lower back always feeling tight

• tummy tightness years after pregnancy

Just because something is common…

doesn’t automatically mean you should have to keep putting up with it.

I’ve written more about this in this week’s blog.

A little thought for today…

There are quite a few things women quietly put up with because they think:

# “That’s probably normal.”

Things like:

• leaking when you cough or sneeze

• pain around ovulation every month

• scar pulling years after surgery

• tummy tightness years after pregnancy

• always feeling tight through your hips or lower back

• needing to wee “just in case” before leaving the house

Sometimes things become so common…we stop questioning them.

Out of curiosity…

What’s something you thought was “just part of getting older” or “just part of being a woman”?

One thing I’ve noticed over the years…

Women are often brilliant at looking after everyone else.

Appointments get booked.

School things get sorted.

Family comes first.

Work gets done.

People are looked after.

But when it comes to themselves…very often they quietly move themselves to the bottom of the list.

Not because they don’t matter.

But because life gets busy.

Or because they think:

“I’ll sort it when I have more time.”

“I’ll do it when I’m back at work.”

“I’ll wait until maternity pay finishes.”

“Maybe I’ve left it too late anyway.”

And before they know it…months pass.

Sometimes years.

One thing I gently remind women in my therapy clinic is this:

Looking after yourself isn’t taking something away from everyone else.

Sometimes it’s the thing that helps you keep going for everyone else, too.

Sometimes there isn’t one big moment where a woman suddenly decides to ask for help.

It’s usually quieter than that.

More like:

“I can’t keep just putting up with this.”

Not because things are dramatic. But because:

The pain/discomfort keeps coming back
The body still doesn’t feel right
Or you’re just tired of constantly working around it

And after a while…something shifts from:

“I should probably do something about this one day”

to:

“I think I’m ready now."

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you book.

You just need a starting point, and sometimes that first step alone can feel like a huge relief.

A lot of women feel nervous before booking an Initial Assessment.

Not because they don’t want help…

But because they don’t quite know:

what’s going to happen
what they’ll be asked
or whether they’ll even know how to explain what’s going on

And honestly?

That’s completely normal.

The first appointment isn’t about:

being judged or tested

It’s about understanding:

what’s been going on
how your body is currently feeling and functioning
and what kind of support is actually going to help

So we talk.

We look at the bigger picture.

And where appropriate, we begin working with the body in that first session too.

Most women leave saying:

“I already feel better just understanding what’s going on.”

And that’s often the first real step forward.

I’ve written more about this in this week’s blog.

One thing I think stops a lot of women from asking for help…

is feeling like they need to have everything figured out first.

Like they should already know:

what the problem is
what treatment they need
or whether what they’re experiencing is “bad enough”

But honestly?

Most women come to see me feeling unsure.

They just know:

something doesn’t feel right
things haven’t properly improved
or their body doesn’t feel like it used to

And that’s enough.

You don’t need to turn up with:

the “right” words
a full explanation
or all the answers

That’s part of what I help with.

Because sometimes the hardest part isn’t the treatment itself.

It’s taking the first step when you’ve been quietly putting up with something for a long time.

And if that’s where you are right now…you’re definitely not alone.

One of the things women often say to me, within a few sessions, is:

“This feels different to what I’ve tried before.”

And it’s not usually because of one big moment.

It’s because things are gradually starting to change… and actually stay changed

They’re not just:

getting a bit of relief
then slipping back again

They’re noticing things like:

• not feeling like they’re starting from scratch each time
• their body responding more quickly between sessions
• less flare-ups after doing everyday things
• movement feeling more natural again

And slowly, it becomes less about:

“Will this hold?”

And more like:

“I can feel this moving in the right direction.”💛

That’s the difference when your body isn’t just treated…it’s properly supported

A lot of women I see have already had treatments before.

And they’ve often said:

“It helped… but it didn’t really last.”

And that’s not because the treatment was wrong. It’s usually because what happens after the session hasn’t been supported.

Because proper support isn’t just about what happens on the couch. It’s about what happens next.

It’s:

understanding what your body actually needs
building on what starts to improve
adjusting things as your body changes
and having guidance between sessions

So instead of starting again each time

You’re actually moving forward 💛

That’s the difference between something helping…and something actually starting to last.

I’ve written about this properly in this week’s blog.

One thing I think is really important to say…

Is that this isn’t just about what happens during a session?

Because a lot of women have already tried that.

They’ve had:

a massage
a treatment
or a one-off appointment somewhere

And it might have helped for a bit…

But then things slowly slipped back again.

That’s usually because the body hasn’t just needed one good session

It’s needed, the right support between sessions, too

Because real change doesn’t just come from what happens on the couch for an hour.

It comes from:

how your body is supported afterwards
how things are built on
and how it’s guided forward over time

So you’re not:

starting from scratch every time

You’re actually:

moving forward 💛

And for a lot of women…that’s the bit that’s been missing.

One of my favourite moments in clinic isn’t a big dramatic change.

It’s when someone pauses and says something like:
“That feels different…”
Not in a huge way.

Just…

easier
lighter
less tight
less restricted

Sometimes it’s:

standing up without thinking about it
not feeling that same pull through the tummy
moving without bracing or hesitating
or realising your hips and back aren’t doing all the work

And for a moment, it’s like:

“Oh… I haven’t felt like this in a while.” 💛

Those small shifts might seem subtle. But they’re often the beginning of your body: moving in the right direction again.

Have a lovely weekend,
Dawn xx
