Introducing Dr Graham Mason -
– MBChB, MRCPCH, Consultant in Paediatric Critical Care, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Dr Graham Mason is a distinguished medical professional specialising in Paediatric Critical Care at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH). He obtained his MBChB from the University of Manchester in 2005 and holds the MRCPCH qualification. After completing his paediatric training in the North West Deanery, Dr Mason took on a senior fellow role with the North West and North Wales Paediatric Transport Service (NWTS). In 2016, he was appointed as a consultant in paediatric critical care, focusing his work on the High Dependency Unit.

Leadership and Specialisations:-

Clinical lead for the paediatric early warning score system.
Lead for supporting and developing critical care advanced practitioners.
Associate Medical Director for Quality and Safety and MCS.
Patient Safety Specialty lead at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).
His special interests encompass paediatric high dependency care, early warning scores, managing the deteriorating child, and medical education.
Innovative Projects

Currently, Dr Mason is spearheading the development of a paediatric critical care outreach service, showcasing his commitment to expanding and enhancing patient care. His forward-thinking approach is further evidenced by his support for Art VR, recognising its potential to revolutionise healthcare delivery.

Dr Mason’s enthusiasm for cutting-edge healthcare solutions is apparent in his role as a patron of Art VR Limited. He sees immense potential in this technology for:

Early intervention in mental health.
Improving staff wellbeing.
Supporting patients’ families.
Enhancing accessibility for those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions.

He first encountered the company’s founder, Sarah, during a trip with the children’s charity Destination Florida, where they took 74 children with life-limiting illnesses to Orlando, Florida. Many of these children were from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Recognising the potential of Art VR’s technology, Dr Mason invited the company to trial the product at the Hospital. He was impressed by the positive feedback from his staff and quickly realised the broader implications for the NHS and the wider community.

His advocacy for integrating Art VR into the hospital environment demonstrates his dedication to exploring novel approaches that can significantly impact patient care and staff support.

Dr Graham Mason’s career is characterised by a steadfast commitment to advancing paediatric critical care, embracing innovative technologies, and improving patient safety. His multifaceted roles and forward-thinking initiatives continue to shape the landscape of paediatric healthcare in Manchester and beyond.
