Ritual Retreat: East Meets West with Simply Sound ✨Shannon DeSario- Sound Therapist and Yuko Omotenashi Dining
A day of crafting, learning, sharing lunch, wandering on walks, chatting with lovely humans, learning kintsugi, making sushi, and being transported back to memories of my trip to Japan.
And as always, I found myself noticing something bigger. None of these things are “just” activities. Making sushi invited us to slow down, pay attention, use our hands, and be present. Kintsugi reminded us that beauty isn’t found despite the cracks, but often because of them. Walking connects us to nature. Sharing food connects us to each other. Creating connects us to ourselves.
These are the rituals of joy I talk about so often. Not grand gestures. Not expensive experiences. Not waiting until life is perfect. Simple, intentional moments that engage our senses, calm our nervous systems, spark curiosity, create connection, and remind us what it feels like to be fully alive.
As an Occupational Therapist, I’m fascinated by how everyday activities shape our wellbeing. As a joy seeker, I’m fascinated by how tiny moments of wonder can transform an ordinary day.
The science and the soul meet in exactly the same place. In the making, the noticing, the connecting and the sharing.
Today was East meets West. Ancient wisdom meets modern understanding. Ritual meets evidence. Creativity meets connection.
And joy quietly weaving its way through all of it.
What simple ritual brings you back to yourself?
