I found what I was looking for because a patient told me about it before she died.
She’d been seeing this coach. Incredibly expensive, she said. But amazing - life changing. I filed it away.
Then she passed and I went to the memorial service.
A woman approached me and my colleague. “You two look like you work in an aesthetic clinic.”
She was vague. Intriguing. She invited us for champagne at the Savoy in her suite.
We went. When we left we looked at each other and said “what just happened?”
She invited me to spend half a day with her. No fee. I got on a train heading to Yorkshire. I didn’t really know who I was meeting.
We ended up in this old, cold house. There were colouring pens & large pieces of paper.
She looked at me and asked - how are you?
Fine, I said.
How are you, really?
And I just started crying.
She asked me how I saw myself compared to other people. I said - really small. In that moment I saw it clearly for the first time.
How low my self-worth was & how insignificant I felt to the rest of the world.
Something shifted after that.
Quietly I started to see that the way I’d been living - stuck in my head, never enough, always on, wasn’t just how life is.
It was just thinking and thinking can change.
She turned out to be more complicated than any of us knew. But what happened in that room was real. The shifts were real. And I’ve never lost what I found there.
That was the beginning of a journey I’m still on.
One that eventually led me to the Three Principles, to coaching, to understanding what was really going on within.
I still can’t fully explain what she did. I think that’s why it took me so long to understand what the Anna Miller Method is.
Because it’s the same thing.
Now I sit across from women who are carrying what I was carrying then.
I ask them how they are.
Then, I ask them how they really are.
And that’s where it all begins.
Have you ever found something that changed everything when you weren’t even looking?
