As a running enthusiast, I was overjoyed to learn some years ago that sauna can accelerate recovery after exercise. The intense heat of the sauna dilates blood vessels, bringing tired muscles oxygen rich blood to help flush out metabolic waste. Sauna has been showed in randomised research to reduce delayed onset muscle soreness after workouts and resistance training, compared to normal passive recovery (completely resting your body).
‘Heat stress’ stimulated when you enter an environment like a sauna naturally boosts growth hormone production(your body’s natural repair and construction worker), aiding muscle repair and fat metabolism. Did you know that sauna bathing mimics mild cardiovascular exercise, expanding blood plasma volume to make your next workout feel easier.
