As another client said to me this morning “You don’t need to have it all figured out, you just need to start”.

I don’t care about having a massive following.
I care about you. The ones that are in it for the long haul, not a quick fix - the “looking after yourself for life” gang.

Montane Ullswater Trail 20 yesterday, I didn’t expect to finish.
Due to a foot issue 12 weeks ago, I had to knock my mileage right back and take a complete break for a couple of weeks.
Low training mileage, stair stepper, bike and keeping up with the strength work and Rowan Wood Run Coaching guiding me, pulled me through yesterday. It wasn’t pretty, but I got it done 👍

had a super strong race coming 3rd V40 female 💪
Then true to form, after going to the shop, she’s waiting for me at the finish with a big hug, an even bigger bag of salt and vinegar Hula Hoops and a Coke 😆 (I don’t even like coke but that was the best thing ever).
Awesome weekend in the Lakes ❤️

ran a super smooth event, lovely marshall’s - big thank you to the lady at the last aid station, who helped me get the tailwind that was stuck in a sandwich bag into my bottle before I had a meltdown 😆
Well run, inclusive, hard recommend 💯

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m shuffling my poor feet to the kitchen for another brew, whilst contemplating doing this for 50 miles in 8 weeks time 😳😁☕️

I’ve seen a few things this week that p**sed me off 😁
Here’s the top 4:

“It’s not a proper squat unless you’re ass to grass”
- 🐂 💩 We all have different squat patterns, due to anatomy (how wide/deep our hip & sockets are, femur length, mobility, ankle dorsiflexion, injuries or what we’re actual training for! Not everyone needs to get into a deep squat!

Critiquing someone’s exercise or form.
- Again you don’t know what someone is recovering from, or whether it’s their first time in the gym or whether they’re training for something specific.
Mind ya own.

Certain exercises burning more calories.
- a machine or watch CANNOT tell you this information accurately.
Exercise is there to help you get stronger and fitter. This notion that we earn or burn our calories needs to get in the bin 🗑️

Go hard or go home.
- Christ. Is this still a thing?! You might not always have a lot in the tank and showing up to a session sometimes is hard enough. Doing what you can with the energy you have on a given day, is still another deposit in the health bank.

The emotional barriers for getting into exercise is hard enough, let’s not make it more difficult by judging ourselves or others. Remember these the next time you scroll through or hear this nonsense BS 👍

Strength training is really simple.
This world of social media, influencers and nonsense telling you what the “best way to optimise your workouts” is enough to make anyone back away!

Start at home in ya comfy gear, do some body weight exercises, maybe a resistance band or those weights that are hiding under your bed, and start small.
Pick 4 or 5 exercises and practice them - write down what you lifted (weight) and how many times (reps and sets) you did.
Over weeks, practice, practice, practice and get good at the basics. Get stronger. Build on it.
