Matthew Tuck Obituary 12-06-2025
It is with an inconsolable heart that we tell you of the passing of Matthew Tuck, aged 58.
In January, he was diagnosed with a very aggressive and rare bone marrow cancer called Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. He had been fighting it as bravely as he could and was in isolation at Kingston hospital, and then transferred over to St George's to have very extensive chemotherapy. Yet he still came through, smiling and positive, as those who knew him would testify to being his everyday nature.
In May, Matt was told that the Leukaemia had mutated, and he was discharged into my care and needed weekly maintenance Palliative care treatment at the Sir William Rous Unit, in Kingston. Matt still fought hard while being at home, but sadly, he only survived 5 weeks. We made those 5 weeks worthwhile for him and accommodated his needs, allowing him to do whatever he wanted, given his limitations. The world is a much sadder place without his shining persona.
Matt had such an amazing Archery career and loved every single minute of it. Coming from a very competitive and sporting background, he was determined to do his best in Archery. We started off as Mr and Mrs Nervous archers in and our very first tournament was at the Guildford Acorn shoot, way back in 2007. Matt travelled and shot with growing success at all the local tournaments, shooting recurve on Imperial rounds and reaching Bowmen classification. He then progressed onto Compound and moved over to FITA as well as Imperial rounds, and it was at this time he really excelled and was picked to shoot for the Middlesex Team. Matt went further afield and gained more experience, and was awarded his GMB classification. He was picked to shoot for England in 2015 at the Euronations in Edinburgh, where he picked up 3 silvers and a bronze. He also shot the AGB Nationals series for a few years too.
Matt racked up wins, placements and ever-increasing scores, and was rewarded with being sponsored by Wales Archery. His first compound bow came from there and Kevin and Ian looked after him amazingly, and he was sponsored for a good many years until he stopped shooting. Matt had fantastic memories of going to the βToy Shopβ over the bridge in Wales.
Matt was also invited to the Royal Tox shoot a couple of times, was Lord Paramount multiple times, and loved shooting SCAS and GNAM. He was awarded pretty much every shooting badge and has an array of many medals and trophies, that an extension will need to be built.
Matt was such a wonderful man, he just loved helping, coaching, talking and sharing knowledge with everyone. He loved going away shooting for the weekends to catch up with his mates, and he always said it just felt like a Jolly. In later years Matt only had time to sporadically shoot, but his hunger for archery remained. He loved his compound, but you would have also seen him with a longbow in his hands a couple of times, too. What wonderful memories and achievements he had; he will be sorely missed.
If you knew and loved Matt as we all did, and would like to attend his special day (Friday 18th July, 3.20pm), please find Mattβs funeral notice details below:
