π£ Proud regulation moment π£
Arthur (age 6), had his first EVER gymnastics competition last weekend! I felt very proud as I watched him remember all the steps for his floor routine, bar work and super cool jumping moves off of the mini trampoline thing (not sure what it's called π). He looked like he was having great fun! β€οΈ
At the end of the competition, it was the award ceremony. π₯π₯π₯
Arthur didn't win any medals and I was watching his little disappointed face from the audience as he watched his friends take to the podium.
When I went to pick him up from the door I was fully expecting floods of tears and a leap into my arms. BUT he calmly came up to me with a proud smile on his face. I gave him a great big hug and told him how proud I was, how much I enjoyed watching his performance π and asked him if he had lots of fun.
He replied, "I had so much fun! I was really really disappointed when I didn't win, but mummy I was a good sportsman and congratulated those who did!" π₯°π
This made me feel even more proud, he had recognised his feeling of disappointment, worked through it to feel it in a safe way using his regulation techniques, shared his big feeling with his trusted grown-up and found it within himself to be happy and feel pride for his friend who had won π
For those of you who know Arthur, this is a really big regulation milestone for him πππ
Did you know that regulation skills are learnt (not developed with age) and children who can self-regulate are more likely to perform better at school, build stronger more meaningful relationships and live happier healthier lives!
