Many hands, one shared piece. 💚

This is the finished community tapestry created at Féile Soma.

Throughout the day, people of all ages stopped at the loom and added something of their own. Different colours, different yarns and different ways of weaving, some people stayed for just a few minutes, while others returned and added a little more.

Gradually, all of those individual contributions became one shared artwork.

That is what we love about The Big Weave. No one person creates the finished piece. It grows through the people who take part, something that none of us could have created alone.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to weave, chat, watch or simply spend a little time with us.

A moment to pause 🌿

Alongside the community weaving at Féile Soma, we created a small reflection space where visitors could stop and leave a thought, feeling or a few words on our reflection tree.

Throughout the day, the branches gradually filled with contributions.

For us, The Big Weave is about more than creating a finished tapestry. It’s about the experience of making something together — slowing down, connecting with others and having the opportunity to contribute in your own way.

Sometimes that contribution is made with yarn. Sometimes it’s made with words.

Look a little closer…

Up close, you can really see what happens when so many different people contribute to one shared piece.

Different colours, different yarns, different hands and different ways of weaving — no two sections are quite the same.

Each person adds something of their own, and gradually those individual contributions become one collective artwork.

Together, we create something none of us could have made alone.

Something happens when people gather around a loom. 🧶

At Soma Festival, people of all ages stopped to sit, weave, talk and simply spend a little time together.

Some stayed for a few minutes, others for much longer. No weaving experience was needed — just an invitation to take a seat and become part of something being created together.

That’s what we love about The Big Weave. The tapestry matters, but so does everything that happens around the loom — the conversations, the connections and the shared experience.

One of our favourite things about The Big Weave is watching people who have never met sit down together.

Around the loom, children, parents, grandparents and friends shared conversations while creating something they couldn’t have made alone.

Nobody needed any weaving experience—just a willingness to join in.

Thank you, Féile Soma. 💙

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of bringing The Big Weave to the Féile Soma Souk in Castlewellan.

From the first thread to the last, people of all ages came together to create something shared. Some stayed for a few minutes, others much longer, but every contribution became part of a tapestry that tells the story of the day.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to weave, chat and spend time with us. We’re also incredibly grateful to the Féile Soma team for inviting us to be part of such a welcoming community event.

These are just a few moments from a wonderful day. We’re looking forward to sharing more over the coming weeks, including the finished tapestries once they’ve been handed over.

The loom is already filling with colour as people of all ages stop to weave, chat and become part of today’s community artwork.

After weeks of planning, hundreds of butterflies and metres of yarn are packed and ready for tomorrow.

Tomorrow, these boxes will become much more than materials. They will help create a community tapestry, woven one thread at a time by everyone who chooses to take part.

If you’re visiting Soma Festival in Castlewellan, we’d love you to come and join us.

No experience is needed—just take a seat and we’ll guide you. Weaving is for everyone.

Festival season is fast approaching.

Spaces like this — people gathering, making, slowing down together — feel more important than ever.

The Big Weave creates a place to pause within the pace of a festival.
A space where people can sit, connect, and contribute to something shared.
