High blood pressure can affect anyone but some communities are at greater risk ❤️

People from Black African, African Caribbean and South Asian backgrounds may have a higher risk of developing high blood pressure and related health problems, making it particularly important to know your numbers.

High blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms, so you could have it without knowing. Regular checks can help identify problems early and give you the opportunity to take action.

There are also simple things you can do to look after your blood pressure:
❤️ Stay physically active
🥗 Eat a healthy, balanced diet
🧂 Reduce the amount of salt you eat
🚭 Don’t smoke
🍷 Keep alcohol within recommended limits
⚖️ Maintain a healthy weight

Your local pharmacy may be able to check your blood pressure and offer advice on keeping it within a healthy range.

Ticks are small spider-like creatures that are commonly found in long grass, woodland, heathland, and areas where animals graze. They're most active during the spring and summer months.
Most tick bites are harmless, but some ticks can carry bacteria that cause Lyme disease, so it's important to remove them as soon as possible.
If you find a tick:
✔️ Remove it promptly using a tick removal tool or fine-tipped tweezers
✔️ Pull upwards steadily without twisting or squeezing the tick
✔️ Clean the bite area with soap and water or an antiseptic
✔️ Avoid using petroleum jelly, nail varnish, or a lit match to remove the tick
To help prevent tick bites:
👖 Wear long sleeves and trousers when walking through long grass or woodland
🧦 Tuck trousers into your socks if you're in high-risk areas
🧴 Use an insect repellent containing DEET on exposed skin
🔍 Check yourself, children, and pets for ticks after spending time outdoors
⚠️ Contact your GP if you develop a circular or expanding rash (often described as a "bull's-eye" rash), flu-like symptoms, or feel unwell after a tick bite.
💊 Need a tick removal tool, insect repellent, or advice? Pop into the pharmacy and speak to our friendly team

Accidents can happen at any time – whether you're at home, travelling, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with family. Having a well-stocked first aid kit means you're prepared to deal with minor injuries quickly and safely.
Your first aid kit should include:

✔️ Sterile dressings and bandages
✔️ Antiseptic cream or wipes
✔️ Medical tape
✔️ Scissors and tweezers
✔️ Disposable gloves
✔️ Pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen
✔️ A digital thermometer
✔️ Burn dressings or burn gel

It's also a good idea to regularly check expiry dates and replace any used or out-of-date items.

Whether you're heading to the beach, enjoying a walk, gardening, or simply spending time outdoors, wearing suncream is one of the best ways to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
Sunburn doesn't just happen on holiday – UV rays can damage your skin even on cloudy days, increasing your risk of premature skin ageing and skin cancer.
To stay protected:
🧴 Use a broad-spectrum suncream with at least SPF 30 (or SPF 50 if you're spending longer in the sun or have fair skin)
☀️ Apply generously 15–30 minutes before going outside
⏰ Reapply every 2 hours, and after swimming, sweating or towel drying
🧢 Wear a hat, sunglasses and protective clothing where possible
🌳 Seek shade during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm)
💊 Not sure which suncream is right for you or your family? Our pharmacy team can help you choose the best option for your skin type and lifestyle.
Protect your skin today so it stays healthy for years to come. ❤️
