I met a lady on the March on Saturday whose daughter wasn’t taken seriously for a very long time! Then when they finally accepted she had anorexia her “treatment” was 20 weekly sessions of CBTe. Good that it was the version dedicated to eating disorders at least! However once that was over, it didn’t seem to matter how much progress she’d made, that was it! End of treatment. Let loose to just get on with it!
I’ve know patients who have been discharged from inpatient care at BMI 10,12,14. Expected to recover themselves. It just won’t happen! Once it’s set it needs kicking out! No patients should be left to themselves below BMI 20 in my view! Even then ongoing support should continue for a while to ensure they are settled!
Professionals need to follow the science and more science is needed!
I was very disappointed when Richard Quigley MP finished a great speech with the term food is food there is no bad food! He is a fabulous advocate! I can understand why in front of an eating disorder crowd. However many with Eating Disorders show a significant lack of many nutrients. Nutrition is important for recovery. Some food is not food!
How we deal with that is another matter! 😢
Thank You. Thank You. Thank You!!
Today marked the fourth Dump the Scales Eating Disorders March in London - following on from our latest campaign launch yesterday.
To every single person who joined us for today’s march, we are so grateful - it is hard to put into words quite how much it means to us to see so many people get behind our campaign and stand beside us in solidarity for all affected by eating disorders.
We are such a small team, with no funding, but filled with so much fight and passion, and to see so many of you join us means more than we can say. It is days like today which remind us why we are doing the work we are doing, why we keep pushing for change and why all the long days and sleepless nights have been worth it…( but we are definitely looking forward to an early night!)
To everyone who spoke today - whether sharing personal stories or experiences within your profession - thank you. This campaign is built on amplifying voices, and we are honoured you chose to share yours with us.
To our volunteers - Thank you for showing up, taking on your roles with care and enthusiasm, and helping the day run so smoothly. We couldn’t have done it without you.
To the tech team, BSL interpreters, and film crew - you truly made such a huge impact on making the day as special as it was!
And all of your signs as always, they were inspiring, powerful, heartbreaking and truly unforgettable. We can’t wait to go through all the photos over the coming weeks. So please do keep sharing and tagging us in your photos - or email them to [email protected]!
To us… we rarely take any time to acknowledge all of the time, energy and money we have put into this campaign, we are constantly on the go and looking to the next thing and often don’t allow ourselves to feel proud of what we are achieving… but right now. We feel proud of ourselves.
We’ll be sharing a full reflection on the day soon, as well as some next steps. So please keep an eye on our profile for updates.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us and fighting to demand for change and end the injustices faced by all those affected by Eating Disorders.
