Delivered another women’s health and menopause session for a primary care team today. GPs, clinical pharmacists, advanced practitioners and nurses in the room.

The part I enjoy most is the questions. Not the ones about guidelines, the ones that start “this might be a daft question”. They almost never are, and they’re usually the thing three other people in the room were also wondering.

If you’d like this for your practice or PCN, message me and tell me what your clinicians are finding hard.

Because confidence is usually the missing piece. Most primary care clinicians know a good deal about menopause already. What they often don’t have is the time to keep up with a field that has moved considerably, or a space to ask the questions they’d rather not ask in front of a patient.

That’s what the session is for. Women’s health and menopause management, pitched at the people doing the ten-minute appointments. What’s changed, what the evidence says now, and how to have a useful conversation when the list is long and the clock is running.

I’m delivering it again on Wednesday 9 September, for GPs, clinical pharmacists, advanced practitioners and practice nurses.

If you’d like it delivered to your team, message me and we’ll talk about what your clinicians actually need. It’s more useful when it’s shaped around that than delivered off the shelf.

Thank you for being patient with me this week. Getting stuck was nobody’s idea of a good time, and the messages while I was sorting it out were kind.

Back in clinic Monday. Bookings are open again, and if you were one of the appointments I had to move, you’ll already have heard from me. If you haven’t, please get in touch and we’ll sort it.

Her words about the appointment.

At ease and relaxed. Those two words do more work than they look like they do.

Because most women arrive stressed & on edge. Expecting to be rushed, expecting to be told it’s their age, expecting to have to justify why they’ve come. And you can’t have a useful conversation with someone who’s stressed and on edge. They give you the tidy version, the one symptom that feels most legitimate to raise, and the rest stays in the bag.

So the first job isn’t clinical. It’s getting someone comfortable enough to tell me the whole of it. The hour helps. So does not having a queue behind you.

All my questions were answered is the other line I’d point at. You should never leave an appointment holding a question you didn’t get to ask.

People expect my bathroom shelf to be more impressive than it is.

Four products. AWvi gentle cleanser, power serum, active cream, and sun protection. Morning and evening are the same, apart from the SPF. That’s the whole thing.

I use AWvi because my own skin is sensitive and reactive, and because gentle formulations suit it better than a shelf of strong actives. That’s a decision about my skin, not a verdict on anyone else’s.

And it’s the boring bit that does the work. Not the product list. The same few things, every day, for long enough to see whether they’re helping. Most skin problems I see aren’t caused by using the wrong product. They’re caused by using nine of them, changing them constantly, and never giving anything long enough to tell.

I take a skin biotic alongside it. The relationship between the gut and the skin is one of the more interesting areas in skin health at the moment, and I take an interest in where the evidence goes. I’m not going to tell you it will clear your skin. I’ll tell you I take one.

The sun protection is the part I won’t skip. Heliocare 360 Water Gel in tinted bronze most mornings, and their compact in my bag, because one application at eight in the morning has stopped working by lunchtime. If you take one thing from this, take that one.

But none of this is a prescription. My routine suits my skin and my history. Yours would start from a different place, which is rather the point of assessing it properly first.

Her words about what actually happened in the room.

You should leave a skin appointment knowing what was found, what it means, and what happens next. In writing.

A report is not a nice extra. It’s the difference between an assessment and a sales conversation. You can read it again in a week. You can show it to someone else. You can decide in your own time, without anyone standing over you.

That’s why every skin assessment here ends with one.

The Skin Health MOT™ is 45 minutes and £125. In-depth skin and lifestyle questionnaire, professional skin analysis on the LW Pro A, then your report and written plan.

If you want to know what’s actually going on with your skin before you spend anything on it, that’s where to start.

Ending August with three things.

Something I’m proud of. I spent twelve weeks in business mentorship this year, working out how to actually run this thing rather than just do the clinical work well. It’s taken it from a nice side hustle to a proper private practice. I’ve learnt a great deal and I still have a great deal to learn.

Something I’m leaving in August. Website and IT development. Not my forte, and I’d be lying if I said otherwise. I’ve spent more hours than I’d like on things I’m not good at, and I’ve learnt to hand more of it over.

Something I’m taking into September. A new business model, a new website, and processes that hold together. All of which exist so I can spend my time on the part I actually love, which is helping my patients, and women more widely, navigate perimenopause and menopause.

August also ended with me stuck in Cyprus for an extra week, which was not on the list. But it was a good month.

Clinic update, week commencing 31 August.

With sincere apologies, I’m unable to run next week’s clinic and can’t take any new bookings for that week.

My flight home from Paphos was cancelled by easyJet at short notice on Thursday evening, and there was no seat with any airline until Thursday night. I’ve personally contacted everyone already booked in to reschedule. If you were booked and haven’t heard from me, please get in touch.

easyJet’s customer service has been almost impossible to reach and of little practical help, with a great many passengers left stranded in Cyprus.

Thank you for your patience. Back in clinic the following week. 💛
