Today marked the successful completion of our nine-week Stepping On Falls Prevention Programme, coordinated by Omagh Healthy Living and funded by the Public Health Agency through the Healthy Living Centre Alliance.
Over the past nine weeks participants have taken part in a comprehensive programme designed to reduce the risk of falls, improve confidence and support independent living.
Throughout the programme, a range of health professionals and community organisations shared their expertise on important topics relating to falls prevention, nutrition, home safety, fire safety, physical health, eye health, foot health and overall wellbeing. Alongside this, participants took part in weekly Otago strength and balance exercises, helping to improve mobility, stability and physical confidence.
A special thank you to the organisations who joined us at today's celebration event and provided information stands for participants. We are grateful to the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID), Easilink Community Transport, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS), Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke (NICHS) and Omagh PCSP for taking the time to attend and showcase the valuable support and services available within our community.
Thank you to Easilink for the weekly transport of some of our participants and also to St Columba's and Laura for use of the hall and for the delicious food today.
The impact of this programme on those who attended has been significant. Participants have not only gained a greater understanding of falls prevention but have also learned practical tips and strategies that they can continue to use in their daily lives. Many reported improvements in their strength, balance, confidence and ability to remain active and independent.
The value of the Stepping On programme cannot be overstated. Falls can have a major impact on an individual's health, independence and quality of life, making preventative programmes such as this incredibly important within our communities.
We would like to thank all of the participants who committed to the programme over the past nine weeks. Their enthusiasm, engagement and willingness to learn made the programme such a success.
In addition to the educational and physical benefits, participants thoroughly enjoyed the social aspect of coming together each week, forming new friendships, sharing experiences and supporting one another along the way.
Congratulations to everyone who completed the programme. We hope the knowledge, skills and confidence gained over the past nine weeks will continue to have a positive impact. 😊🤩
