Hello lovely people

It's been nearly 10 years since I launched my coaching business and I love the work I do helping children through big emotions, anxiety, school struggles, and confidence wobbles. Where else can you see a change in as little as 20 minutes and get to blend three things you love - wellbeing coaching, theatre and storytelling, and working with young people?

The feedback from the countless families and schools I have helped in the past decade has been fab, from running interactive assemblies with 170 primary school children, term-long SEND group workshops, staff INSET, Scout and Guide sessions, right through to my private 1:1 coaching where children have told me I have quite literally saved them when nothing else had worked...

BUT running a solo coaching practice in the current climate is incredibly tough.

Behind the scenes, I have spent the past few months trying to reach new local parents and schools, build relationships with organisations, printing and distributing updated copy, attending conferences, and trying to post on community pages. Rarely are posts successful in getting past admins (yes, reason unknown despite me asking); 99% of the time, I do not even receive a response from organisations who have shown interest in collaborating; and it's becoming harder (nearly impossible) to connect with the families who absolutely need me.

I hold on to the fact I know I'm needed because we're in a mental health crisis and feedback has shown I bring the results in helping children feel seen and heard, and also in bringing about positive change for families and schools. I wouldn't have continued for a decade otherwise.

But I have to balance that with the reality of where the business is, and right now, my back is against the wall.

To be fair to myself and those around me, I have to be realistic. Unless I can secure further regular clients to work with in the next couple of weeks, I will be looking at closing the doors to my coaching practice.

Before I make that final decision, I'm giving it one last push.

If your child is struggling with school refusal, anger, or anxiety, let's talk. If you're a parent (or group of parents) wanting access to my Rupture to Repair workshop, drop me a line. Or if you know a school or organisation that would like staff support, INSET, 1:1 or group coaching for children or staff, I am here. Let's have that conversation and see how I can help. I may not be the right fit, but equally I could be just what you need and you've not realised it yet.

To everyone that has supported the business over the years, especially since day one, you have been amazing. I can't thank you enough, but as I can't bypass gatekeepers, algorithms change, and can't even post flyers on some of our community boards locally, your ongoing support is one of the final things I'm relying on.

If you have benefitted from my help over the years, know someone who has, or have simply enjoyed being part of the journey, please share this post today (or any of the others if there's another post you prefer). You might just help me reach that one family or organisation who needs this lifeline at a crucial point.

Thank you for reading, and for all your support ❤️

Yesterday I was sat in a bustling cafe when I needed to access their wifi.

Having clicked 'join network', my phone did its thing but then I noted it said 'Connected, but not secure' and it got me thinking. This is exactly how millions of people live their lives every single day.

As humans, we crave connection. We join networks, be they friendship groups, workplaces, groups and clubs in school, romances, and more, but without internal security, we leave our lives completely exposed.

What does an 'Unsecure Connection' look like for us?

⚡Zero Firewalls - You say 'yes' to every request because a password feels too restrictive.
⚡Data Leaks - You overshare your deepest vulnerabilities with people who haven't earned your trust.
⚡System Glitches - Your body fires off warning alerts such as anxiety, fatigue, a tight chest, but you ignore the pop-up.
⚡Emotional Malware - You absorb the toxic moods, stress, and demands of everyone around you until your system crashes.

Public wifi is easy. It requires no effort to join, and people-pleasing works the same way. When you offer unrestricted, free access to yourself, you get instant validation, but you pay for it with your security. You become accessible, not connected.

True connection requires some sort of encryption, and as humans that comes in the form of boundaries that say 'Yes, you can see me, yes you can connect, but no you cannot rewrite my code and my life'.

Any rewriting comes down to you and you alone. So what can you do if you make connections that don't feel secure?

- Read the Pop-ups - Notice your somatic warning signs. When your stomach drops, your system is telling you the network isn't safe.
- Set a Password - Boundaries are not walls to keep people out. They are passwords to ensure only the right people get in.
- Disconnect to Reboot - If a dynamic is draining your battery, hit 'Forget this Network'. You can step away, regulate your nervous system, and reconnect only when your security settings are updated.

How secure are your connections right now?

Be honest, is the new school routine already causing deep anxiety, meltdowns, or school refusal in your house?

For next week only, my Connection Calls also include mini coaching support (one or two strategies) that you can use straight away at no extra fee. No sales pitch, no pressure. Just a confidential space to tell me what’s happening and look to find a way to lower the temperature at home.

These slots are strictly limited and current availability is here:- https://shorturl.at/o7ioZ.

Please share this to your timelines. Someone in your network might be secretly struggling in silence today.

Oh it's here. School midweek fatigue already setting in.

When a child comes home angry, emotional, or melting down, their emotional cup is full from the day. What, and you want to add to it with a ton of questions? OK. Light the blue touchpaper and stand well back!

Here's my tip. PAUSE. Don't ask 'How was your day?' the second they walk out of the school gates or the nanosecond they walk in the door. Give them 15 minutes of quiet decompression time with a snack first including dehydration.

Let their nervous system settle down and recalibrate. Honestly, it will help you all.

What is your child’s favourite way to unwind after school, no matter their age?

The new academic year is underway, so I wanted to say hello again to everyone who follows me on here.

I'm Roy, an emotional regulation coach for children. I work with children and teens who experience big emotions (sometimes pretty massive!) like anxiety, anger, and school overwhelm, and provide them with practical, lifelong tools to help them understand their brains and bodies.

With this, I also support parents and educators to look after themselves, understand the children in their care, and rewrite the parts of their story that aren't working.

I believe every child deserves to feel safe in their own skin, and every parent, teacher, or other school staff member, deserves to feel confident supporting them.

I have space for four new families right now. If you’ve been looking for supportive, practical coaching for your child, I’m here. Drop me a 'Hello'! 👋

If you're waking up this morning to tears over the uniform, panic at the front door, and a horrible knot in your stomach before you've even touched your coffee, this isn't merely 'bad behaviour'.

This is an overwhelmed nervous system that your child needs support with.

As an emotional regulation coach, I help children move from meltdowns to calm, and I have space to help four local families, with zero judgement. Grab practical tools right now so that you can get your mornings back.

If you know a parent who is dreading tomorrow morning, and the one after that, please share this or tag them below. It could be the lifeline they need today.

BANG!

What was that?

That was the summer hols, mate, and now we're back at school!

Yep, just like that. One minute we're eating ice cream for breakfast chilling in swimming trunks, and showering if we've the energy, and the next the books are out, structure returns, and with it, the anxiety and stress can recommence.

It doesn't have to be like that!

As we head into the new academic year, what's your biggest goal right now?

Attempted to post this earlier but hey WiFi isn't great. Hope you can hear me OK. It was a bit windy 😂 and yes, I'm in ultra casual mode right now too hence the look...

As schools return and summer seems so long ago, may I send some sunshine happiness your way.

The new term brings new challenges from back to school anxiety (for children and teachers alike), as well as friendship issues, and behaviour changes as boundaries are tested. It's like building on shifting sand right?

Whether it's helping a child find their superpower, helping staff find the joy in the job again, or providing parents with pockets of peace, let's take the next step forward together...

Signing off - this is it then...

The time has finally come...

We're now closed...

For the next 13 days at least.

It is time to take a break. While tomorrow's podcast will still land at the usual time (please take a listen), I am officially disappearing from socials until the new term.

📆 MY CALENDAR REMAINS OPEN!

If you're new here...as an Emotional Regulation Coach, I help families and schools navigate the big feelings, stress, and anxiety that come with this time of year:

-- Children & Teens: Supporting a calm, structured reset to build confidence and ease the anxiety of heading back to school.

-- Parents & Carers: A space to catch your breath, learn practical grounding tools, and manage the household stress.

-- Educators: One-to-one SEMH coaching, INSET support, and workshops to protect wellbeing in the new term.

🆒Let's map out a plan to make this academic year calm instead of chaotic.
