We're delighted to share Dr Fiona MacLeod's interview featured on That's TV Oxfordshire discussing lung cancer screening and the importance of improving outcomes for patients.

The programme aims to identify lung cancer at an earlier stage, often before symptoms develop, giving people access to treatment sooner and increasing the chances of successful outcomes.

In this interview, Fiona explains who may be eligible for screening, why early detection matters, and how the programme is helping to save lives across the region.

With thanks to That's TV Oxfordshire for sharing this interview.

🌞 The sunshine might feel great, but your skin could be telling a different story.

With temperatures soaring across the Thames Valley, it's important to remember that sunburn isn't just uncomfortable.

It increases your risk of developing skin cancer, including melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer.

Protect your skin by:
βœ” Using SPF 30+ sunscreen
βœ” Reapplying regularly
βœ” Covering up with clothing, a hat and sunglasses
βœ” Seeking shade during the hottest part of the day

And while you're taking care in the sun, take a moment to check your skin. If you notice a new mole or a mole that is changing in size, shape or colour, contact your GP practice.
Enjoy the sunshine safely. Your future self will thank you.

Myeloma Awareness Week (15-21 June) is an opportunity to shine a light on myeloma, a type of blood cancer that affects thousands of people across the UK.

Because its symptoms can often be mistaken for other conditions, myeloma can be difficult to recognise. Common signs may include persistent bone pain, fatigue, recurrent infections and symptoms that don't improve over time.

Improving awareness of myeloma can help more people recognise when something isn't right and seek medical advice sooner. Earlier diagnosis can lead to faster access to treatment, support and care, helping to improve outcomes for patients.

This week, we're supporting efforts to increase understanding of myeloma, encourage conversations about blood cancer symptoms and highlight the importance of early diagnosis.

Cervical Screening Awareness Week 15-21 June highlights the importance of cervical screening in preventing cervical cancer.

Cervical screening is one of the most effective ways to detect changes in cervical cells before they develop into cancer. Regular screening helps identify potential problems early, when treatment is most effective.

If you've received an invitation for cervical screening, attending your appointment could help protect your health. If you're nervous or have questions about the process, support and information are available.

We're encouraging people to learn more about cervical screening, understand its benefits, and help spread awareness of the importance of early detection and prevention. More info: https://thamesvalleycanceralliance.nhs.uk/our-work/nhs-cervical-cancer-screening-programme/

Men's Health Week from 15-21 June is an opportunity to encourage men to take charge of their health and well being.

Many cancers that affect men, including prostate and testicular cancer, can have better outcomes when diagnosed early. Knowing the signs and symptoms, attending appointments, and seeking medical advice when something doesn't feel right can make a real difference.

This week, we're encouraging men to prioritise their health, talk openly about concerns, and access the support available. Looking after your health isn't just important for you, but for the people who care about you too.
