James turns 16 next year, what will be an incredible milestone will actually be tainted by stress and many months of work prior.
James has an indefinate award of Disability Living Allowence(DLA). This payment allows James to access the world a little and without it would nave no real opportunities. Half of it goes to motability (along with a £10k upfront deposit) so he can have a wheelchair accessible vehicle(WAV).
At 16 we have to prove that James is disabled enough to be allowed to transition from DLA to Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
The criteria is vastly different from DLA. Disability doesnt fit neatly into very tight criteria and the assessment is personally subjective by 1 person who doesnt understand complex rare conditions.
There is no guarantee that James will not recieve less money, or that he will not loose his WAV.
Its totally on the parents to provide evidence and even then it may not be enough.
