Is all anxiety bad? (Spoiler: No!) 📈

We often talk about anxiety as something to get rid of entirely. But healthy, manageable anxiety actually serves an important daily purpose.

Psychologists use a concept called the Yerkes-Dodson Law to explain this:

Too little anxiety / arousal: We feel sluggish, unmotivated, and bored.

Optimal anxiety: A moderate amount sharpens focus, boosts energy, and helps performance. It’s what prompts you to study for an exam, double-check your work, or cross the street safely.

Too much anxiety: The system overloads, leading to panic, brain fog, and exhaustion.

The goal in therapy isn't to erase anxiety completely—we actually need it! The goal is to move out of overload and bring your nervous system back into that healthy, manageable zone where anxiety works for you, not against you.

👉 If high anxiety is holding you back or leaving you exhausted, you don't have to tackle it alone. Get in touch to schedule an initial chat.

A warm welcome to the journey ahead! I’m so glad we’re connecting! This welcome meeting is designed to bridge the gap between 'hello' and 'results.' During our time together, we’ll walk through your goals, address any immediate questions, and map out exactly how I can support your success. Thi...

Ever wondered WHY anxiety feels the way it does in your body? 🌿
When we experience anxiety, the physical sensations can feel alarming. But every single symptom serves a specific evolutionary purpose:

🫀 Racing heart: Pumps blood rapidly to your arms and legs so you can react quickly.

🫁 Shortness of breath / rapid breathing: Brings in extra oxygen to prepare your body for action.

🤢 Tense stomach / butterflies: Digestion slows down or shuts off so energy can be diverted to immediate survival.

🪟 Tunnel vision / dilated pupils: Lets in more light and helps you focus intensely on potential threats.

💦 Sweating: Cools the body down to prevent overheating during a fight-or-flight response.

Your body isn't trying to sabotage you—it’s trying to protect you.

When you notice these feelings, try taking a slow, deep exhale and gently reminding yourself: "My body is just trying to protect me, but I am safe right now."

Joy starts with being kind to yourself 🌿

For Happiness Happens Month, let’s talk about a quiet secret to happiness: self-compassion.

It’s easy to feel like happiness is something we have to chase or earn. But real happiness often comes from releasing pressure, letting go of perfectionism, and treating ourselves with the same kindness we offer to others.

Here are three simple ways to nurture your well-being this month:

Set a boundary: Saying no to extra demands gives you space to say yes to yourself.

Drop the "shoulds": Notice when you're judging yourself harshly and swap it for a gentler thought.

Pause: Take five minutes today just to sit, breathe, and check in with how you’re feeling.

Happiness isn't about ignoring life's challenges—it's about creating space for peace even amidst the noise.

👉 If you're feeling overwhelmed and ready to make space for your own well-being, I’m here to support you. Reach out today to schedule a consultation.

Anxiety isn’t a flaw—it’s a survival feature 🚨

When anxiety strikes, it can feel overwhelming, terrifying, or like your body is failing you. But anxiety actually has a vital purpose: to keep you alive.

Think of your brain’s fear center (the amygdala) as a super-sensitive smoke detector:

Its job: To detect potential danger and react instantly—long before your logical brain has time to analyze the situation.

The physical response: It pumps adrenaline, speeds up your heart rate to pump oxygen to your muscles, and quickens your breathing so you’re ready to run or fight.

The glitch: Your brain can't always tell the difference between a real physical threat (like a speeding car) and a psychological threat (like a tough work call or social situation).

The racing heart and tight chest aren't signs that something is wrong with you—they are signs that your body's protection system is working overtime to keep you safe.

Understanding why your body reacts this way is often the first step in helping it calm down.

👉 If your internal alarm system feels stuck on high alert, therapy can help you recalibrate it. Reach out today to book a confidential consultation.

Happiness doesn’t have to be a big event ☀️

August is Happiness Happens Month, a gentle reminder that happiness isn't always about massive milestones or perfect days. More often, it lives in the small, everyday moments we tend to overlook:

A warm cup of tea in a quiet house

Hearing your favorite song unexpectedly

The feeling of sun on your face

A genuine laugh with a friend

When life feels busy or stressful, we can get caught up waiting for "everything to be fixed" before we allow ourselves to feel happy. But noticing tiny moments of joy right now can build emotional resilience and bring a sense of calm.

What’s one small thing that brought a smile to your face today?

Nature’s rhythm: Nurturing your garden and yourself 🌸

This National Allotments Week, we're celebrating the simple, restorative joy of being outdoors.

Gardening and spending time in nature offer us a gentle metaphor for our own mental health: growth takes time, seasons change, and every garden needs care, patience, and nourishment to thrive.

Stepping outside—even for 10 minutes a day—gives your mind room to breathe, clears mental fatigue, and connects you back to yourself.

Whether you're harvesting vegetables, pottering in the garden, or taking a slow walk outdoors, try to pause today and take in your surroundings with all five senses.

If life feels a bit chaotic right now and you're struggling to find your footing, you don't have to figure it out alone.

My Journey & Lived Experience

Behind every therapist is a human being with their own journey, challenges, and chapter changes. 🌿

Before stepping into the therapy room, I spent nearly two decades working in the NHS as a Pharmacy Technician. While I valued my time there, 10 years ago I realized I was no longer fulfilled by that path. I made the deliberate decision to pivot my career toward counselling and hypnotherapy—focusing directly on supporting people through life's complex emotional landscapes.

That transition taught me a lot, but life itself has taught me even more. I bring a raft of lived experiences into my practice. No one moves through life without encountering adversity, even when it feels like you're carrying it entirely on your own.

People walk through my door navigating all kinds of hidden challenges:
🔸 Childhood bereavement or complex family dynamics

🔸 Workplace bullying (which is unfortunately far more common than many realize)

🔸 Struggling with addictions or financial pressures

🔸 Major life transitions and career changes

Just because someone else's struggles aren't visible doesn't mean you are alone in yours. We all carry something, yet we all continue to find ways to move forward.

Whatever chapter you are currently navigating, you don't have to figure it out in isolation. I offer a quiet, confidential space to unpack it all at your own pace.

Getting back to grass roots 🌿

With National Allotments Week here, it’s a wonderful reminder of just how powerful spending time outdoors can be for our mental health.

You don’t need an allotment or a huge garden to feel the benefits—even a small balcony, a local park, or tending to a few potted plants can help:

Lower stress: Nature naturally lowers cortisol levels and calms a busy mind.

Practice mindfulness: Digging in the soil, feeling the fresh air, and noticing small green shoots forces us into the present moment.

Boost mood: Sunlight increases serotonin, giving your mental well-being a natural lift.

There is something deeply grounding about watching things grow and taking time away from screens.

How are you stepping into nature this week? If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or disconnected lately, I’m here to help you navigate it.
