Sometimes called the Mother of all Yoga's or the Yoga of awareness Kundalini Yoga is a powerful blend of postures, breath work or Pranayama, mantra and meditation that teaches deep relaxation and physical and emotional release, it awakens your inner potential to be more, to life your fullest life and gives you everything you need right in the moment of practice. It doesn't judge it is just there l
ike a constant helping hand when you need. Yoga For Real Life fuses Kundalini Yoga exercises (Kriyas), sound vibrations through Mantra and elements from other Yoga practices to bring a sense of euphoric release to the body and mind and encourages you to take the practice off the mat and into everyday life. Kundalini Yoga can be enjoyed by everyone. From complete beginners to the advanced Yogi. All you need is a desire to improve your life, to live to the fullest and face whatever life throws at you with control and grace. Modern living and current times can be quite challenging and bring unnecessary stresses to our lives. The regular practice of Kundalini Yoga can help you to recognize patterns (habits) and help you to make changes. How many times have you said or heard people say 'I don't have the time' or 'maybe I'll think about it'. Giving time to practice can actually make time more abundant in your life. Let's use each new 24 hours to the max whilst we have them! Awakening the snake!! - Everyone is born with Kundalini energy but for most it remains dormant at the base chakra, the base of the spine. In doing the Kriyas - movements of Kundalini Yoga, we awaken this coiled serpent energy and allow it to travel up the spine unblocking the other energy centres (chakras) of the body along the way. Healthy unblocked chakras trigger the 'good feel' chemicals in our body promoting balance and harmony giving us a natural high state of inner bliss! (Who doesn't want that )
What to expect in a class:
A typical class will consist of tuning in (ONG NAMO GURU DEV NAMO), warming up the spine, the Kriya or set for the intention of the class, mantra & meditation, deep relaxation and finishing with tuning out (SAT NAM). Breath and Mantra are key components in a Kundalini Class. Our breath is our life force and with a mindful approach to breath work we help to eliminate toxins, boost the immune system and bring about a wonderful meditative effect. Mantra can feel silly, embarrassing and strange at first but try to have fun with it, smile and let go. Mantra stimulates the 84 reflex points in the mouth and the vibrations of these sacred words of empowerment can help to reduce the chatter mind we all experience thus alleviating stress and anxiety. The Kriyas are powerful movements that with practice build strength, stamina, flexibility and release. Always remember to work at a pace that is comfortable to you and smile. Yoga is meant to be fun! After the active meditation we go into deep restorative relaxation (Shavasana). This is where the magic happens! The integration of body and mind. This is the most important part of the class but can be the most challenging as we don't often allow ourselves to just stop and rest. Trusting these precious moments of stillness promotes clarity of mind, mental awareness and the ability to be present and enjoy the now, not living in the has been or the what is yet to come brain. Final Thoughts:
Our brain is like a computer and our storage system, the body, can get too full and sluggish this when we feel tired, run down and pain creeps in. It is through Kundalini Yoga and deep relaxation that we have the opportunity to download and empty our system of years of built up stress and anxieties. It's like taking the weight off your shoulders as they say. Our lives are not without stress but we have the power within us to notice and become aware of how to control the stress. This practice can give you the tools to change your life. To be happy, to be present, to Live a Yoga Life! Hope to practice with you along the journey!
