A cool morning turned into a hot afternoon today!

Finn was really comfortable with his trim this morning, and his feet are starting to grow more after a soggy winter. Little Zeph had a very relaxed heavy traffic training session, and all the quarry lorry drivers were fab.

I then spent a few hours in the sun with two of my lovely clients. More about them in another post, but both were really interesting in how they responded and what they asked for in their bodywork today ❤️

I caught up with Spotty at the track this morning, he was a lot softer and relaxed throughout his body today and very content throughout his session.

Finn thought he should be having a session too, so I did some cranial work with him afterwards- the horses were in a big group already, but one by one half of them dropped to the floor for a snooze 😴

I then paid a visit to see two of my clients who have been with me since my training days ❤️ it's always good to catch up and hear what they've been up to.

Little Zeph and I celebrate our 4th anniversary today! I can't quite believe it, and we've not done an awful lot this last year, but hopefully we'll have more adventures in the coming year.

He was rather overenthusiastic with the anniversary kisses last night 😆

I've had a lovely, albeit windswept, day volunteering at Bowland TREC Group competition. I really enjoy watching the riders and admiring the horses. It's something I've done with Finn in the distant past, but I'm hopeful to get back into it with Zeph one day.

It's gained popularity over recent years, but if you haven't heard of the sport before take a look at the Trec GB website for more information.

Lovely views from yesterday with Ellie P Jo and her gang.

Pleased to see Sia much happier and moving so much better, and young Angus did great showing off his skills with poles. Crystal was also fab, her hindlimb PROM has much improved thanks to Ellie doing her homework 🌟

We did a mixture of bodywork and dynamic assessment including proprioception and conditioning work while enjoying the ☀️

Why Repetition Alone Doesn’t Work (Dopamine)

Ever feel like your horse just “checks out” during training?

That’s not stubbornness.
That’s brain chemistry.

Dopamine is the driver of:
• Motivation
• Curiosity
• Learning

And here’s the key 👇

Dopamine isn’t released just from rewards…
It’s released from anticipation and discovery.

That means:
✔ Variety increases learning
✔ Small wins boost engagement
✔ Timing matters more than force

But too much repetition?
❌ Decreases dopamine
❌ Reduces motivation
❌ Creates dull, disengaged horses

Your horse isn’t lazy…
Their brain has stopped finding value in the experience.

👉 The best training feels like a puzzle—not a chore.
