Life without family and friends is like missing one large, significant piece of the puzzle. It ends up being a miserable life. Yet, you must be warry of those derailing you from living the fullness of your life. They're everywhere, especially in families and religious houses. They have stopped growing and they want to make sure that everyone around them stay stagnant and keep celebrating their mediocrity and insecurities. They constitute themselves into deities and shrines and require you to worship them on account of age or "special grace". Beware...cos everybody ends up realizing that life's shorter that we think.

It is remarkably easy to claim you love humanity from behind a screen or a podium, where you never have to look an individual sufferer in the eye.

Bukowski did not construct his worldview in an academic seminar. He spent over a decade sorting letters on the night shift at the Los Angeles Terminal Annex post office, living in run-down rooming houses and writing late into the night. Because his daily reality was grounded in the grit of the working poor, he had an intense allergy to grand political manifestos and abstract saviors.

He understood that vast ideological campaigns often serve as an emotional hideout. It is convenient to obsess over fixing society as a whole, because doing so absolves you of the tedious, unglamorous responsibility of helping the real person standing right in front of you.

Real transformation doesn't happen through slogans. It happens at eye level, through direct, unromantic action.

Start small. Start with the person nearest to you.
