This Volunteers’ Week, I’m reflecting on where it all began years ago, I was a volunteer.
That experience sparked a career change and ultimately led me to founding Homewell Plus. I’m grateful for every step. What about you?

Stroke rehab. Parkinson’s support. Acupuncture.

And no, this wasn’t in a hospital or clinic waiting room with old magazines from 2007.

This was all done in someone’s own home.

That is the beauty of community healthcare.

For some people, just getting to an appointment can be stressful, tiring, and honestly a bit of a mission. Being able to bring professional support into someone’s home can make such a huge difference.

Less stress.
More comfort.
More confidence.
And usually a better cup of tea.

It genuinely makes me happy seeing people improve in the environment where they feel safest and most comfortable.

This is exactly why we do what we do at Homewell Plus.

Representing Homewell Plus, yesterday I attended the Homecare Association Future of Home Care 2026 Conference at the The Kia Oval - Surrey County Cricket Club yesterday. What a brilliant day it was!

The speakers were excellent, genuinely motivational, and it was really positive to hear so many conversations focused on the future of home care, quality, leadership, and doing things the right way. Days like this remind you why you started and reinforce that we are moving in the right direction with Homewell Plus.

It was also very informative to hear from the Care Quality Commission about where they currently are with their registration processes and some of the changes being made going forward. It was useful to hear directly from them and gain a better understanding of the direction things are moving in.

There were also representatives and speakers from government and major media organisations, including the BBC The Sun and Financial Times, which really highlighted the importance of the conversations taking place around the future of care and support within our communities.

It was also great to meet so many like-minded, positive people who are passionate about improving care and supporting people properly within their communities. Those conversations and connections are just as valuable as the presentations themselves.

Many thanks to Caroline Southgate MCSP for getting me involved. I really appreciate the opportunity and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Standing outside MI6 this morning auditioning for the new James Bond.

Think I’ve got a decent shot to be fair…
Experienced under pressure, good at problem solving, can disappear into meetings unnoticed, and already own the running vest.

Only slight issue is I accidentally told security I was “more community physio than international spy”… which apparently raised a few questions.

Licence to rehab.

Yesterday’s Run Plymouth Plymouth Half Marathon and 10k looked absolutely brilliant. Huge well done to everybody who took part, whether you were chasing a PB, running your first event, running for charity, or just getting yourself over that finish line.

Watching people run always makes me happy. I genuinely love it.

Running has played a massive part in my own life. It has helped me grow as a person, given me structure, discipline, perspective, and introduced me to some amazing people along the way. It has taught me that big things happen when you just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

As a runner myself, a physiotherapist, and a trustee of the Livewell Foundation , it was great to see so many people out there representing the Foundation and enjoying the day together.

Events like this remind you how powerful movement, community, and encouragement can be. Running really is for everybody, and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about giving it a go.

Well done again to every single person involved, including the organisers, volunteers, supporters, friends, and families cheering people on around the course.

Saturday night visits are not always easy, but they are important.

Tonight I visited a gentleman living with Parkinson’s disease. His family are doing everything they can, but sometimes families need support too. That reassurance. That extra pair of hands. Someone to listen, guide, and help take a little pressure away.

These visits are never just about care. They are about people, dignity, reassurance, and helping someone remain safe and supported in their own home.

Parkinson’s disease affects not only the individual, but the whole family around them. I left tonight knowing the right support is being put in place, and that matters.

Today, on International Nurses Day, we want to recognise and thank all nurses for the compassion, professionalism, resilience and care they show every single day.

Nurses play such an important role in supporting people through some of the most difficult moments in their lives, whether that is in hospitals, care homes, the community or in people’s own homes.

At Homewell Plus, we are proud to work with and alongside nurses, and we see first-hand the difference that kindness, clinical knowledge and genuine care can make to individuals and families every day.

Thank you to every nurse for everything you do.

If you or a loved one need support at home, including dementia care, rehabilitation support or home visit physiotherapy, please feel free to get in touch.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, organised by the Mental Health Foundation.

Over the last few years, I have learned that mental health is not just about getting through difficult moments. For me, it became about reprioritising what I wanted my life to look like.

Exercise, physical fitness, routine, time outdoors, and making healthier lifestyle choices had a huge impact on me personally. Not because everything suddenly became perfect, but because I started feeling more balanced, more focused, and more like myself again.

I also think there is a difference between looking happy and genuinely feeling happy within yourself.

Social media, money, status, cars, comparison, or trying to live up to what everyone else expects can pull people away from what actually matters to them. Sometimes improving your mental health starts with being honest with yourself about the kind of life you genuinely want to live.

Working in healthcare, you also see how many people are carrying stress, pressure, loneliness, anxiety, or burnout quietly in the background while still trying to look after everyone else around them.

There is help out there. If I can help, I will, or I will always try to signpost people towards organisations and support that may help them.

Please check in on the people around you this week, and also remember to look after yourself as well.

It was a privilege for Homewell Plus to attend this fantastic event on Plymouth Hoe celebrating adult social care in our city.

There are so many hardworking, compassionate people supporting vulnerable adults across Plymouth every single day, often quietly behind the scenes, and it was brilliant to see that recognised and celebrated.

As an allied healthcare professional-led company, we are passionate about helping people remain safe, independent, and well at home through a combination of care, rehabilitation, and community support.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising the day and to all those working across health and social care in Plymouth. Collaboration across services is so important for the future of community care.

If you or a loved one need support at home, including dementia care, rehabilitation support, discharge support, or home visit physiotherapy, we would be very happy to help.
