This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, organised by the Mental Health Foundation.
Over the last few years, I have learned that mental health is not just about getting through difficult moments. For me, it became about reprioritising what I wanted my life to look like.
Exercise, physical fitness, routine, time outdoors, and making healthier lifestyle choices had a huge impact on me personally. Not because everything suddenly became perfect, but because I started feeling more balanced, more focused, and more like myself again.
I also think there is a difference between looking happy and genuinely feeling happy within yourself.
Social media, money, status, cars, comparison, or trying to live up to what everyone else expects can pull people away from what actually matters to them. Sometimes improving your mental health starts with being honest with yourself about the kind of life you genuinely want to live.
Working in healthcare, you also see how many people are carrying stress, pressure, loneliness, anxiety, or burnout quietly in the background while still trying to look after everyone else around them.
There is help out there. If I can help, I will, or I will always try to signpost people towards organisations and support that may help them.
Please check in on the people around you this week, and also remember to look after yourself as well.
