Two wards at Glangwili Hospital are currently temporarily closed to admissions and visitors due to separate outbreaks of infectious conditions.
Steffan Ward Glangwili is managing an outbreak of influenza (flu) and Cadog Ward is managing an outbreak of scabies.
The health, safety and wellbeing of our patients, visitors and staff is our priority. We are following national guidance and have taken additional steps to reduce the risk of infection spreading.
Our Infection Prevention and Control Team is working closely with ward teams and hospital management to minimise any impact on services and to prevent further spread with reviews planned for next week to assess when the wards can reopen.

Anyone can become unwell when the weather is hot, here are some tips to keep your home cool:

- Close blinds and curtains on windows that are in direct sunlight during the day.

- Open windows (if it is safe to) when the air feels cooler outside than inside, for example at night, and try to get air flowing through your home.

- Use electric fans if the air temperature is below 35°C (above this temperature, they may not help to cool the space), but do not aim the fan directly at your body as this can lead to dehydration.

- Turn off lights and electrical equipment that are not in use.

- Go outside if it is cooler in the shade.

PLEASE SHARE: Our Emergency Departments (A&E) at Glangwili, and Withybush hospitals and the Minor Injuries Department at Prince Philip Hospital are under significant pressure today Sunday August 9th.

Please read and share the advice below that could help you make decisions about the best health care for your urgent need.

If you are feeling unwell and unsure what to do, the NHS 111 Wales website should be your first point of call: https://111.wales.nhs.uk/

For urgent mental health support please call 111 and select option 2. For advice and support from a mental health professional 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Only attend an Emergency Department if you have a life-threatening illness or serious injury, such as:

• Severe breathing difficulties

• Severe pain or bleeding

• Chest pain or a suspected stroke

• Serious trauma injuries (eg. from a car crash)

If you have a less serious injury then please visit one of our Minor Injury Units. They can treat adults and children over 12-months of age, with injuries such as:

• Minor wounds

• Minor burns or scalds

• Insect bites

• Minor limb, head, or face injuries

• Foreign bodies in the nose or ear

Did you know you may be eligible for the Men-b vaccination?

• If you were born between 01/09/2007 and 31/08/2008, you will be offered the Men-B vaccination.
Or;
• Born on or after 21/07/2001 (turning 25 on or after 21/07/2026) and you’re attending higher education or residential further education for the first time from Autumn 2026, including international students and those from the UK Devolved Administrations and Crown Dependencies.

If you are a seventeen or eighteen-year-old born between 01/09/2007 and 31/08/2008, you will be sent a letter by the health board inviting you to have your vaccine.

If you were born on or after 21/07/2001 (turning 25 on or after 21/07/2026) and starting higher education or residential further education for the first time from Autumn 2026, then you will need to contact your health board after the 20th July.
Please do not contact your health board before 20 July 2026 as further information will not yet be ready.

Please be aware that if you are under 25 and attending higher or residential further education for the first time this Autumn you will be expected to provide evidence of your offer letter from university or college when you arrive for your appointment.
