Take a look at the link from SBUHB for more information on our service and other professional avenues to support Waiting Well.

If you are waiting for treatment or surgery, it's important to make sure that you are as fit and healthy as possible.

Staying active, eating healthily and quitting smoking will help you to 'wait well' and boost your overall health and wellbeing.

You can find a lot of information and support on our Waiting Well web pages, which we hope you'll find useful in the time leading up to your appointment.

You can also find out about new ways to take control of your healthcare, like signing up to the Swansea Bay Patient Portal.

The pages contain information about quitting smoking, sleep advice, wellbeing and mood support and how to empower your healthcare, and much more.

Waiting for your treatment or operation can be frustrating, particularly when waits can be longer than they should be as health services strive to catch up after the pandemic. We apologise for delays that some patients may be experiencing, but please be assured that we are working hard to reduce waiting times.

You can find information and advice on our Waiting Well pages on the health board website here: https://sbuhb.nhs.wales/hospitals/waiting-well/

Are you involved in coaching a sports team?

Want to know more about reducing lower limb injuries and concussion in sport?

Interested in better performance for your team?

Join our physiotherapy team for community education sessions on preventing sports injuries.

The team will be hosting free, practical education sessions focused on reducing the risk of serious sports lower limb injuries, helping you to stay active, healthy and doing what you love.

The first will be held on Thursday 9th July between 6-7.30pm at Llandarcy Sports Academy, with the second on Wednesday 26th August between 6-8pm at Cefn Hengoed Leisure Centre.

Sports and exercise are fantastic for physical and mental wellbeing — but injuries can have a lasting impact, including:
👉 Time away from sport, school or work
👉 Long recovery periods
👉 Reduced confidence and performance
👉 Ongoing joint problems later in life

But many of these injuries can be prevented. Research shows that simple, targeted warm-ups can reduce serious knee injuries by up to 85% and can even reduce concussion by 60%.

What will the sessions cover?
✅ How common sports injuries occur (including knee injuries such as ACL)
✅ Why certain groups (including young people and women in sport) are at higher risk
✅ The impact of injuries on long-term health and activity
✅ Introduction to proven injury prevention warm-up programmes
✅ A practical demonstration of simple exercises that can be used in training
