Together we rise ❤️🖤

A slightly different Phoenix post today — and one that means rather a lot to me.

I’m incredibly proud that Phoenix OT Coaching & Consultancy is sponsoring Archie’s football team, Freckleton FC, for their final season together.

Many of these lads have grown up together. They’ve played football alongside one another since they were little boys, and over the years I’ve watched friendships grow, families connect and a group of children become young men.

And actually, there’s something in that which reflects so much of what Phoenix means to me.

Community. Connection. Belonging. Supporting one another. Growing together.

Whether it’s in sport, at work, in our families or through the difficult chapters of life, we rarely thrive completely on our own. The people around us matter.

When I started Phoenix, I wanted to build something rooted in the community I live in — not simply a business that happens to be based here. So being able to give something back to a team that has been part of our family’s life for so many years feels particularly special.

I might be slightly biased, but I think the shirts look rather good too! ❤️🖤🌿

Here’s to a brilliant final season, boys.

Together we rise. One team. One future.

I’m really excited to start sharing another side of Phoenix with our local business community. 🌿

Most people associate Occupational Therapy with hospitals or helping people manage at home, but OTs can also play an incredibly valuable role in helping people stay well and remain in work.

When someone’s health changes, it can affect their energy, confidence, concentration, routines and ability to manage the demands of their job. Add long waiting times for support and sometimes relatively manageable difficulties can become prolonged sickness absence.

Through Phoenix, I’m bringing together Occupational Therapy and Health & Wellbeing Coaching to offer local businesses practical, personalised support for their employees.

That could be someone managing a long-term condition, menopause, fatigue, stress or anxiety, neurodivergence, bereavement, recovery following illness or struggling to return after a period of absence.

I’ve spent 28 years working in the NHS, most recently working nationally with NHS England. Now I’m really proud to be bringing that experience back into the community where I live.

Phoenix is based locally and I can offer face-to-face workplace support across the Fylde Coast and Lancashire, with rapid access where needed and my availability allows.

My aim is simple:

Help people stay well.
Help people stay in work.
Help people return to work well.

🌿 National expertise. Local, personalised support.

Invest in wellbeing. Invest in people. Invest in success.

If you’re a local employer, HR professional or workplace wellbeing lead and would like to know more, please feel free to message me. I’m always happy to start with an informal conversation.

I popped back to see George following some concerns about his seating. Rather than focusing on the equipment alone, we spent time together looking at what would help George feel most comfortable and well supported.

After repositioning a slip mat beneath his new chair cushion and making a few adjustments to his positioning, George immediately looked more settled. More importantly, he smiled and said himself that he felt much more comfortable.

Sometimes it’s the small changes, combined with listening to the person, that make the biggest difference.

Occupational Therapy isn’t just about prescribing equipment—it’s about understanding the person, how they function, what matters to them, and working together to find practical solutions that improve everyday life.

I’m also really pleased that George’s ongoing seating and rehabilitation needs will now be supported by the NHS Community Occupational Therapy team. I’ve made contact to ensure a smooth handover so they have any information that may support their continued assessment and intervention.

For me, this is what good care looks like.

It’s never about who provides the service—it’s about working together, sharing knowledge and keeping the person at the centre of every decision.

Thank you to George and his lovely family for welcoming me back into your home. It was a pleasure to see him looking more comfortable.

Every home visit is different. Every person has their own story - my role isn’t just about equipment and assessment- its about listening and understanding what matters most, working together to help people live well in the place they call home and hearing families say they feel reassured and hopeful again - thats what this new chapter is all about

Today reminded me why I love being an Occupational Therapist. 💚

I spent time with an older gentleman who has lived life on his own terms. Fiercely independent, deeply rooted in his community and farming culture and unwilling to feel like a burden.

We talked about farming, family and village life. I supported him with some practical equipment, but what stayed with me most was the conversation and connection.

Time was spent reassuring a loving family carrying guilt they didn’t need to hold.

Sometimes the people we love make choices that reflect who they are and how they want to live. Our role isn’t to take those choices away. It’s to support, guide and preserve dignity.

It’s a privilege to spend time with amazing humans and the families who love them.

The best support happens when we work together. 💛

I’m delighted to be building relationships with local independent organisations including Footprints Podiatry, ASC Mobility and Fulwood Hall Hospital.

Each brings specialist expertise, but together we can create more personalised, holistic support for people within our local community.

Because health, wellbeing and independence aren’t delivered by one person or one service alone.

They’re built through partnership, trust and a shared commitment to helping people live well.

This week, I received a testimonial from a family I recently supported following a loved one’s fall.

As I read their words, I was reminded of something important.

Joy in work rarely comes from targets, titles or achievements.

It comes from people.

It comes from sitting in someone’s front room, listening to their story, understanding what matters to them, and helping them find a way forward.

As an Occupational Therapist, I have always believed that the little things are often the big things.

Being able to stay in your own home.

Making a brew safely.

Feeling confident enough to get back into the garden or walk the dog

Knowing that life can continue, even after illness, injury or a difficult setback.

When families invite me into their homes, they are often navigating uncertainty and worry. My role is not simply to assess needs or recommend equipment. It is to bring reassurance, clarity and confidence at a time when it is needed most.

The testimonial I received spoke about feeling safe, supported and understood, and about turning a stressful situation into one that felt manageable.

For me, that is what meaningful work looks like.

Building a small business can sometimes feel like a rollercoaster. There are highs, lows and plenty of moments where you question yourself. Positive feedback matters because it reconnects us with our purpose. It reminds us that what we do has value.

The greatest privilege of this work is that I get to see the difference firsthand.

Not in boardrooms.

Not in reports.

But in people’s homes.

In their kitchens, living rooms and gardens.

Back where Occupational Therapy began for me.

Back where I find real joy.

Because at the heart of it all, it’s about people, their stories, and helping them continue to live the life they want to live.

Today reminded me exactly why I created Phoenix 🌿

After some time away from community practice, being back in uniform and supporting people in their own homes again felt incredibly special.

There’s something deeply meaningful about helping people remain independent, rebuild confidence and continue living well within the routines, spaces and lives that matter most to them.

Occupational Therapy has always been about so much more than health conditions or assessments for me. It’s about people, identity, dignity and helping someone feel more like themselves again during difficult or uncertain times.

Creating Phoenix has allowed me to bring together everything I care about most — Occupational Therapy, wellbeing, compassion and genuinely person-centred support.

And honestly… it’s brought a huge sense of joy and purpose back to me too 💛
