🐾 It’s National Biscuit Day, so this one is for the dogs who can hear a treat packet from three rooms away.

Treats can be a useful part of training, bonding and enrichment, but they still count as part of a dog’s overall diet.

It’s easy for little extras to add up, especially after bank holidays, barbecues and more food around at home. Some foods and leftovers can also be unsafe for dogs, so it’s worth being mindful of what they may be given or pick up.

If your dog has treats, chews or extras alongside their usual food, it is worth keeping them in mind when looking at their nutrition as a whole.

🐾 A warm bank holiday can be brilliant for getting outside, but dogs can struggle in the heat much faster than we realise.

With the warmer weather here, it’s worth keeping a close eye on your dog’s routine today.

Walks are best kept to cooler parts of the day, with fresh water available and shade where possible. Hot pavements, parked cars and too much time in direct sun can quickly become dangerous for dogs.

Signs of heatstroke can include heavy panting, drooling, vomiting, weakness, confusion or collapse. If you are worried about your dog, contact your vet straight away.

Enjoy the bank holiday, but keep those paws safe. 🐶

As Walk to School Week comes to an end, it’s a useful reminder that regular movement, enrichment and routine all play a part in supporting a dog’s day to day wellbeing.
