Ceremonial cacao, although has no official regulation, is widely believed to be any cacao that comes from the criollo variety.

This variety represents a very small amount of cacao production. Not every criollo tree flowers, so to get a pod of cacao beans is a special offering.

If it isn’t criollo, it isn’t ceremonial. In fact, perhaps we should ditch the word ceremonial and just refer to this incredible plant medicine as Criollo Cacao. Then you would know where yours came from.

Why I don’t believe everyone needs cacao every day.

Strange I know, for a supplier of cacao to advocate less cacao. But the deeper your connection with this plant medicine, the clearer that viewpoint becomes.

First, we have the ecological reasoning, if we use it up, it goes away. If we increase demand, the origin and process has to change.

Secondly, and what I hope to make clearer through my work, the connection. Cacao brings us stillness and gives us the emotional depth to navigate life. Yes it boosts energy, but not like coffee. It doesn’t just help kick off feel good chemicals. It helps us understand ourselves more. In understanding ourselves more, we are able to get more clarity and more self acceptance. Then it is from this place that we exude energy and confidence.

But, every situation needs a different response. Some situations don’t need cacao at all. Some situations need it and then you are supposed to pause and let it take shape.

If you turn cacao into an unconscious habit, or you become reliant on it, or worse, addicted to it, you lose sight of why it called you in the first place.

Spend time slowly connecting and learn to listen. Energy communicates, you just need to understand the language.

This cacao captures the essence of the Alta Verapaz region of misty landscapes and roaming mountains.

An excellent example of land stewardship. This cacao has been expertly cared for since the mid-70s.

That’s too big a topic for one post. So let’s centre on the country first, Guatemala.

The Mekong Delta supplies 70% of the coconuts to the whole of Vietnam. But they also grow pomelo, jackfruit, papaya, grapefruit, and a very high quality cacao.

It was amazing to wander through these farms and just happen upon the sacred cacao.
