Have you heard of emetophobia?
It comes in varying degrees but it is a fear of vomiting or being around vomit.
Itโs usually seen more so in females and is said to be a relatively uncommon phobia with 0.1-8.8% of the population suffering from it. But in my experience, this fear is becoming more and more common.
And it can be truly debilitating for those that experience it, with sufferers finding that it affects many aspects of their lives. Many will employ avoidance tactics to deal with their fear but this usually only serves to strengthen it.
Emetophobia is a complex phobia and individuals experiencing it may find their symptoms overlap with other disorders, like OCD. As we learn more about it, weโre realising that what often appears to be emetophobia can, in fact, be another issue masquerading as it. For instance, it can be associated with issues of control, other phobias and even social anxiety.
The good news is that hypnotherapy can help, so if youโre suffering right now from emeptophoboa, please feel free to reach out.
