Have you heard of emetophobia?

It comes in varying degrees but it is a fear of vomiting or being around vomit.

Itโ€™s usually seen more so in females and is said to be a relatively uncommon phobia with 0.1-8.8% of the population suffering from it. But in my experience, this fear is becoming more and more common.

And it can be truly debilitating for those that experience it, with sufferers finding that it affects many aspects of their lives. Many will employ avoidance tactics to deal with their fear but this usually only serves to strengthen it.

Emetophobia is a complex phobia and individuals experiencing it may find their symptoms overlap with other disorders, like OCD. As we learn more about it, weโ€™re realising that what often appears to be emetophobia can, in fact, be another issue masquerading as it. For instance, it can be associated with issues of control, other phobias and even social anxiety.

The good news is that hypnotherapy can help, so if youโ€™re suffering right now from emeptophoboa, please feel free to reach out.

Therapy doesn't have to fit into one box.

Alongside evidence-based therapeutic approaches, I also offer the option of using tarot as a reflective tool within our sessions to help uncover thoughts, feelings, patterns and perspectives that may already be beneath the surface.

Sometimes a card can ask the question we didn't know we needed, helping us explore challenges with greater curiosity, clarity and compassion. The insight doesn't come from the cards themselves. Nope! It comes from the conversation they inspire.

This approach can be especially helpful if you're feeling stuck, facing a difficult decision or simply looking for a different way to connect with yourself.

You don't need to believe in tarot to benefit from it. It's completely optional, always guided by your comfort level, and used as a creative tool to support self-awareness and meaningful change.

Therapy is about finding what works for you. If you're curious about combining traditional therapy with a more intuitive, reflective approach, please feel free to drop me a message.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) isnโ€™t just about needing things to be โ€˜perfectโ€™ or following rituals. For many, itโ€™s a constant battle with intrusive thoughts and overwhelming anxiety. These thoughts can feel all-consuming and often lead to compulsive behaviours that provide temporary relief. But in the long run, they only reinforce the cycle of distress.

OCD can impact nearly every area of life, including:

๐Ÿง  Daily Activities: Tasks like getting dressed, leaving the house or even eating can become overwhelming as people feel the need to perform rituals to reduce anxiety.

๐Ÿ’ผ Work or Studies: OCD can interfere with concentration and productivity, leading to excessive time spent on rituals or worrying about intrusive thoughts.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Relationships: The constant need to control or check things, along with the secrecy and shame that often accompany OCD, can create strain in personal relationships. Also, those experiencing OCD may seek reassurance from loved ones repeatedly.

๐Ÿ’ช Emotional Wellbeing: The stress of managing OCD can lead to feelings of frustration, isolation and low self-esteem.

While OCD can be difficult to live with, there is hope. There are treatments and therapies that can help manage symptoms and break the cycle of compulsions. If you're struggling, remember, support is available, and you're not alone.

If you would like to know how I may be able to help you, please get in touch. Iโ€™ve been there and know itโ€™s possible to quieten the intrusive thoughts and take back control of your behaviour.

๐Ÿพ Please read and share my thoughts on the use of animals in research ๐Ÿพ

As a therapist and psychology tutor, I spend a lot of time teaching about research methods and the importance of ethics in scientific studies. While it's essential to understand the history of psychological research, it's just as important to question whether the methods we use today are necessary and reflect the values we want to uphold.

As a vegan, I don't support the use of animals in scientific research. Full stop. Iโ€™m passionate about animal welfare and believe science can continue to progress while embracing humane, innovative alternatives that reduce and ultimately replace animal testing wherever possible.

So I've left something in the comments for anyone who would like to help those at Camp Beagle who are protesting for the rights of animals (beagles) at MBR Acres. If this resonates with you, please contact the Home Office regarding concerns about MBR Acres. This is a breeding facility in the U.K. where thousands and thousands of beagle puppies are bred for science. Theyโ€™re basically born on death row. At the moment, these puppies are housed in metal sheds - yes, in this sweltering heat and whilst the workers are being sent home early because itโ€™s too hot, these puppies are suffering.

If this is an issue you care about, I encourage you to send the email in the comments to ASRU. Someone has kindly put the email together and it should therefore only take about 2 mins to send.

๐Ÿ’š Every voice matters. Every compassionate choice matters. And the choices we make today may offer these dogs a chance at life.

There is no right way to grieve, and there is no timeline for healing.

Loss changes us. Whether youโ€™ve lost a loved one, a relationship, a part of your identity or the life you once imagined, the emotions can come in waves, and sometimes when you least expect them.

Grief isnโ€™t about forgetting or moving on. Itโ€™s about learning to honour your feelings, finding moments of peace and allowing yourself the compassion you so freely give to others.

As a spiritual therapist, grief practitioner and hypnotherapist, I offer a safe, supportive space where healing can unfold naturally, without pressure or judgement. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give ourselves is permission to simply be with what we feel.

If youโ€™re walking through grief or emotional change, I hope todayโ€™s message reminds you that healing is possible, one gentle step at a time.

โœจ May you find moments of comfort, strength and peace today.
