One of our customers was having a nap when our carer arrived. The moment she spotted the nail supplies — well, let's just say she was up remarkably quickly for someone who'd been sound asleep. 🤣

Nails done, a trip to the beach for a coffee, then back home for a good chat. By the end of the visit she was already making plans for next week, whilst reaching over to hold our carer's hand.

The order of a daily routine matters as much as the tasks within it. The way someone likes to be spoken to shapes how at ease they feel from day one. What they enjoy gives a carer something real to build a connection around. The things that unsettle them — however small — are always worth mentioning. And knowing who else is in their life helps us understand the whole person, not just the support they need.

Our job isn't to take over, it's to make sure people can keep doing the things they want and have always done, with just the right amount of help alongside them. For Jack, that means still being hands-on in his own kitchen, just as he always has been.

Staying active in daily tasks like this keeps both the mind and body engaged, maintains a sense of routine and purpose and, perhaps most importantly, means life still feels like his.

The confidence that comes from doing something yourself, rather than having it done for you, is something we never want to take away. 💙
