To anyone preparing to head off to university:
You can be excited and terrified at exactly the same time.
You can desperately want independence and still miss home.
You can meet lots of people during Freshers' Week and still feel lonely.
You can wonder whether you've chosen the right course.
You can have an amazing first week and a difficult second one.
None of that automatically means you've made the wrong decision.
University isn't simply an academic transition.
It's an emotional, social and identity transition too.
Give yourself time.
You do not have to create your entire new life during Freshers' Week.
And if there's something about leaving home that's already worrying you, it's absolutely okay to get some support before you go.

Starting sixth form or college may not look like such a huge transition.
But suddenly there's:
More independent learning.
Free periods.
Fewer subjects but much greater depth.
Different friendship dynamics.
More responsibility for managing their own time.
And then everyone starts asking:
“So what are you going to do afterwards?”
At 16 or 17!
Some young people thrive on the freedom.
Others quietly become overwhelmed by it.
Rather than:
“Have you decided what you're doing?”
Try:
“What would help you feel more prepared for this next stage?”
And remember — they don't need to have their whole future mapped out yet.

Could one session before September make the transition easier?
Over the next few weeks young people are preparing for some enormous changes:
🎒 Starting secondary school
📚 Entering GCSE year
🎓 Starting sixth form/college
🏡 Leaving for university
Some can't wait.
Others are quietly carrying worries they may not want to share with Mum or Dad.
For under-18s, I'm offering a focused Transition Confidence Session – £175.
Or a two-session Transition Support Package – £330, with one session before the transition and another once they've started and know what the reality actually feels like.
We can work around anxiety, confidence, friendships, overwhelm, worries about school, coping strategies and feeling prepared.
It's not about assuming something will go wrong.
It's about helping them go into their next chapter with a stronger toolkit.

“You'll be fine” isn't always the reassurance we think it is
If your child is starting secondary school and tells you they're worried, our instinct is often:
“You'll be absolutely fine!”
Of course it comes from love.
But sometimes an anxious child hears:
“I shouldn't be worried about this.”
Try instead:
“I can understand why it feels a bit daunting. It's a big change - and we'll work it out as you go.”
We don't need to remove every butterfly.
We want to help them discover:
I can feel nervous AND still do this.

And if those worries are already taking up a lot of space, a Transition Confidence Session before September can help them talk things through and build their own little toolkit for that first day.

Which transition is happening in your house this September?
🎒 Starting secondary school
📚 Entering GCSE Year 11
🎓 Starting sixth form or college
🏡 Leaving for university
😅 Or simply trying to get everyone back into some sort of routine!
Big transitions can bring excitement and anxiety — sometimes both at exactly the same time.
Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to be sharing lots of practical support around preparing young people emotionally for September.
And if you've got a young person who is particularly worried about what lies ahead, you don't necessarily have to wait until they are struggling. Sometimes a session beforehand can help them work through the worries and go into September feeling much more prepared.

Today is day and millions of 6th formers will be receving their results. Good luck to all out there and hope you get the results you are looking for.

For some however it may be a difficult day. So here are a few tips to help you and your child handle disappointing results.

To all anxious parents out there, (and yes I have been there).
It’s natural for both you and your child to feel a bit nervous.

Whether the results are what they hoped for or not, here’s how you can support them through any disappointment and turn it into something positive.

1. Keep Perspective: Results matter, but they don’t define your child’s future. Remind them that this is just one step in a long journey.

2. Be There to Listen: Let your child vent their feelings without judgment. Sometimes, just being heard is all they need.

3. Skip the Comparisons: Every child’s path is different. Avoid comparing their results to others—focus on their individual progress.

4. Celebrate Effort: Praise the hard work they put in, regardless of the outcome. Effort is what truly counts.

5. Plan Next Steps: If the results aren’t what they expected, help them explore their options. And ask their school/college for support. Having a plan and taking action can bring back a sense of control and ease worries.

Let them know this is just one chapter in their story. There are many more chances to succeed ahead.
Our support can turn this moment into a powerful learning experience. Let’s help our kids grow stronger and more resilient, together.
