Does inaccessibility affect your life on a daily basis?

I find myself leaving the house less and less when I don’t have to (everything requires planning ahead, checking, etc), because navigating routes, kerb cuts, entrances and spaces independently in a wheelchair/ with a rollater is nothing short of exhausting for both the body and mind.

🌟 Let’s Talk About Accessibility and Mental Health 🌟

Disabled individuals in England and Wales face alarmingly high su***de rates compared to non-disabled people.

💔 Men with disabilities are over 3 times more likely to die by su***de (48.36 per 100,000) than non-disabled men (15.88 per 100,000).
💔 Women with disabilities are at 4 times the risk (18.94 per 100,000 vs. 4.47 per 100,000).

These shocking figures highlight the immense challenges our community faces daily:
🔸 Social isolation
🔸 Unemployment
🔸 Systemic inequalities

This is why the 💪♿️ campaign is so vital. It’s not just about ramps and elevators; it’s about creating a society where every person, regardless of ability, feels valued, included, and supported.

Better accessibility standards mean:
✅ Reducing isolation by improving social opportunities.
✅ Breaking barriers to employment.
✅ Promoting equality and dignity for all.

💪♿️ – Campaign Updates!

⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️

I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting updates on the accessibility and inclusion campaign. Over the next month, we have some important conversations planned that will help drive positive change for our community.

📅 Wednesday evening: I’ll be meeting with Michael Grimmett (the man behind ‘Pizza in the rain.’) via Zoom to discuss the next steps and explore ways we can amplify the voices of those advocating for better accessibility.

📅 In the New Year: I’m meeting with Caroline Noakes, our local MP, to discuss the urgent need for improvements in accessibility and inclusion. This is a key opportunity to ensure that those in positions of influence understand the barriers we face and why .💪♿️

This is just the beginning, and I’m so grateful for everyone’s support so far. Your voices, stories, and solidarity are what power this movement forward. Let’s keep pushing for meaningful change, because accessibility isn’t a privilege – it’s a fundamental right.

Every time a space is inaccessible, it excludes millions of disabled individuals, sending the message that their rights and needs don’t matter.

This is what ableism looks like—and it’s time to call it out. Accessibility is a basic human right, not a luxury or afterthought.

🚨 Lack of Accessibility in the UK = Ableism 🚨

Accessibility isn’t just a convenience—it’s a basic human right. Yet, in the UK, the lack of accessibility is a clear example of ableism in action.

Why?
Because it systematically excludes disabled individuals, denying them equal opportunities and the basic rights that so many take for granted. It sends a message that the needs and contributions of disabled people are less important, reinforcing harmful societal attitudes.

From inaccessible buildings and transportation to digital barriers and workplace discrimination, these challenges aren’t just inconveniences—they are violations of equality.

Accessibility is a right, not a privilege.
By addressing ableism and prioritizing accessibility in every sector, we can create a society that values all individuals equally—where inclusion isn’t optional but essential.

It’s time for change. It’s time to challenge ableism. It’s time to prioritize accessibility for everyone.
