Fel rhan o Wythnos Anableddau Dysgu, rydym yn dathlu’r gweithwyr proffesiynol ymroddedig sy’n gwneud gwahaniaeth bob dydd ym mywydau pobl yn byw ag Anableddau Dysgu.

Dewch i gwrdd â Dr Sarah Bravey, Uwch Seicolegydd Clinigol, y mae ei neges yn ein hatgoffa o bwysigrwydd tosturi, cynhwysiant a dealltwriaeth - a’r effaith gadarnhaol y gall cysylltiadau ystyrlon ei chael ar unigolion, teuluoedd a chymunedau.

Dywed Sarah: "Rwy’n siarad gyda’m cleientiaid a’u systemau ynghylch teimladau a sut mae’r teimladau hyn yn ymddangos yn eu bywydau. I rai pobl fe allai hyn fod trwy deimladau o hwyliau isel neu bryder/ofn, neu fe allai fod trwy weithredoedd sy’n arddangos ymddygiadau o bryder. Rwy’n gweithio gyda’r cleient a/neu eu system i weithio allan y teimlad a sut gallwn wneud i bethau deimlo ychydig yn llai anodd ac felly leihau’r teimladau neu weithredoedd anodd.”

Rhan allweddol o waith Sarah yw helpu pobl a’u systemau cymorth i ddeall beth sydd y tu ôl i’r heriau hynny a dod o hyd i ffyrdd o wneud i fywyd deimlo’n llai llethol.

Ychwanegodd: "Rydym oll yn profi teimladau anodd ac yn dod o hyd i ffyrdd gwahanol o ymdopi â hwy. Nid yw pobl ag Anableddau Dysgu ddim gwahanol. Mae’n bwysig ein bod yn gweld yr unigolyn yn gyntaf ac yn deall eu profiadau â thosturi.

"Gweithio gyda phobl ag Anableddau Dysgu a’u systemau cymorth yw’r lle gorau i weithio. Mae pawb ar eu siwrnai eu hunain o ddarganfod beth yw bywyd a’r hyn y mae’n ei olygu i fod yn oedolyn (all fod yn anodd). Mae cymryd ymagwedd dosturiol i bob rhan o’r system (gan gynnwys fi fy hun) gobeithio yn creu gobaith a charedigrwydd, allai ledaenu y tu hwnt i’r cyswllt uniongyrchol.”

As part of Learning Disability Week, we're celebrating the dedicated professionals who make a difference every day in the lives of people with Learning Disabilities.

Meet Dr Sarah Bravey, a Senior Clinical Psychologist, her message reminds us of the importance of compassion, inclusion and understanding—and the positive impact that meaningful connections can have on individuals, families and communities.

Sarah says: "I talk with my clients and their systems about feelings and how these feelings are showing up in their lives. For some people this might be through feelings of low mood or worry/fear, or it may be though actions that display behaviours of concern. I work with the client and/or their system to work out the feeling and how we can make things feel a bit less difficult and therefore reduce the difficult feelings or actions.”

A key part of Sarah's work is helping people and their support systems understand what lies beneath those challenges and finding ways to make life feel less overwhelming.

She added: "We all experience difficult feelings and find different ways to cope with them. People with Learning Disabilities are no different. It's important that we see the person first and understand their experiences with compassion.

"Working with people with Learning Disabilities and their support systems is the best place to work. Everyone is on their own journey of working out life and what it means to be an adult (which can be tricky). Taking a compassionate approach to all parts of the system (including myself) hopefully creates hope and kindness, which might spread beyond the immediate contact.”
