It’s easy to come up with excuses... almost TOO easy?

Here’s a few....

It’s been a hard year
You deserve a treat
You haven’t seen family for ages
It’s tradition
The kids are at home
You’re only having one
Everyone else is having one
The weather’s lovely
You want to celebrate
We could go on.....

It’s harder sometimes to focus on the reasons why you started to make changes to your lifestyle.
It’s harder to stick with those positive habits that make you feel better....ok, not just better - amazing!

Before you make a decision about what you eat & drink over the weekend - Take a moment, take a breath.... remember why you started.

Then make a choice.

IT DOESN’T MATTER if the choice you made was to have a glass of bubbly and an cupcake.

πŸ’— Plan ahead β€” we know, romance is supposed to be all about spontaneity, but unfortunately this is likely to leave you with a lot less options when your choices are already narrowed by dietary requirements! If you are planning a romantic night at home, use your Steps Book as a guide, make sure you know exactly what foods to have for your current Step. Perhaps use an app to calculate calorie amounts beforehand, this will help keep you on track.⁣⁣⁣

πŸ’— Make the effort β€” attentiveness is romantic. Why not prepare a special meal at home rather than getting sucked into an expensive takeaway? You can make sure that everything is suitable and perfectly prepared, and you might just earn some extra brownie points as well. This way you can make sure that everything is on plan.⁣⁣⁣

For those of you who are planning on coming off plan for special events through the festive system, here are a few tricks to keep feeling your best when things are so crazy.

✨ Drinks: limit them, and stick to spirits with low calorie mixers or soda water. Keep away from cocktails, as they can be equivalent in cals and carbs as donuts! Also avoid Beer, cider and if you drink wine made it a spritzer wth soda water and ice!

✨Balance is key, stop making it all or nothing!

Let yourself have the things you need. For example, if you need to take a break instead of doing an activity, or need a little bit of quiet time.

If you can't avoid doing something difficult, plan something for yourself afterwards to help reduce the stress or distress you might feel.

Try to clear your head. Get out for a walk even if it's just aroud the block.

β€’ Be gentle and patient with yourself. It might help to think about what is best for your wellbeing during Christmas, and prioritise what you need.

β€’ Set your boundaries. Try to say no to things that aren't helpful for you.

β€’ Let yourself experience your own feelings. Even if they don't match what's going on around you, they're still valid. For example, if you don't feel like celebrating Christmas when everyone else does.

β€’ Take time out. Do something to forget that it's Christmas or distract yourself. For example, you could watch a film or read a book that's set in the summer. Or you could try learning a new skill.
