What is Mental Health Week all about?

11th May - 17th May 2026

This week, we are asked to raise awareness of mental health issues. Poor Mental health and well-being are Issues which will have an impact on us all.

We may have own personal experiences of depression, anxiety, emotional turmoil or mental health struggles. If not, it is certain that we will know of someone who lives through this.

The UK along with many other countries has a greater understanding than any time in history. Yet it still not enough. We need to continue to with spreading awareness so that individuals, family, communities and wider society can be proactive in support.

Those who are suffering, are rarely the voices you will hear. That is why it is important to open the conversation. There need not be an expectation to solve or fix, the act of listening is often enough.

There can still be light in the darkest moments.

Sometimes we only get a limited or restricted view of a world that seemingly exists without us. We can see the sunset and the light but we feel a distance away. Counselling can be a big part of guiding you to moving forward to the life you want. Contact me for a no obligation, no cost - first conversation.
You can use se Facebook, Whatsapp. Call or Text or for more details see my website: www.aaronkwilsontherapy.co.uk or see details on the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) website.

I took this photo as it resonated for me and hopefully for others as something of a metaphor for the depth of what we see beyond the foreground shadow to what we see beyond and then what we REALLY see.
As humans, we often hide our true character. It is a gated area where few can see what lies ahead. By having the confidence and trust in the right people, we may open that gate - Let people in and build meaningful and long-lasting relationships.

Are you struggling to understand your place in a complicated world? Perhaps relationships and allowing closeness are a constant challenge to your well-being. Are you looking for answers?

As a Counsellor and Life Coach, I can work with you as gain insight, develop autonomy and find your own solutions in building your future. Please feel free to contact me through FB, or through the BACP or for more information see my website - www.aaronkwilsontherapy.co.uk

It is interesting that I often find myself writing more about Mental Health and Well-Being at this time of the year. Perhaps it is because I have days when I feel that the days are too short, too dark and a little too cold. In the work I do, I have come to recognise that I am not alone, but for many, those short, dark and cold days last a lot longer beyond the autumn and the winter seasons.

Though, it can certainly be appreciated that for many, different aspects of life are a challenge, it is worth taking an opportunity as we approach International Men’s Day – 19th November for a particular focus on what can be done to improve lives for making a better society.

The main themes from International Men’s day

Making a positive difference to the wellbeing and lives of men and boys

Raising awareness and/or funds for charities supporting men and boys’ wellbeing

Promoting a positive conversation about men, manhood and masculinity

Young men and men as they progress through life are still finding it difficult to understand and work through things which are affecting their mental health and well-being. Some still see it as ‘a weakness’, for others – it’s a personal responsibly and the challenges must be faced alone and there are still those who are struggling to recognise, that there are things which are negatively impacting on their lives.

If any of these things sound like your internal voice or you notice that in someone in your life, think about how you can take action to make the change in improving Mental Health and well-being.

International Men's Day in the UK continues to grow in popularity and aims at "making a positive difference to the lives of men and boys in our country". Please explore this page and also the website for information including how you can get involved too.

Too busy to get Counselling? Not enough time in the day? Too complicated to organise and commit too? Is this you?

Whilst there is certainly a strong case for 'in the room' Counselling, perhaps we need to recognise that that is not for everyone.

Increasingly my clients, who are either personally or professionally leading busy and complex lives, are asking for the convenience of on-line counselling.

This means booking in for for regular sessions at a time for you without the need to factor in travel time, travel expenses and the making of other practical arrangements.

Online counselling is both efficient and straightforward and you don't need to live near or work near your chosen therapist.

No more time dedicated to unnecessary travel in an otherwise busy life.

50 mins of your time dedicated to you. For you to think about you and work through what is affecting you and the life you want to have.

As the clouds come in and feels like the end of Summer, for some the sunshine and warmth is something that feels lost. The outdoors, appearing like a distant memory as we begin the process of 'hunkering down'.

In working through emotional turbulence, challenging relationships, anxiety or trauma - it is often difficult to know when we might find our seemingly lost selves and our missing sunshine as those storm clouds pull in.

If you struggling with life - Is now the time to consider Counselling?

How are you?

We're hitting Wednesday - midweek for those trying to get through a tough job, half way through a time when circumstances have limited an ability to move forward or a time when you are simply just trying to get through.

It is all too common, that when we need to talk - our friends and family are unable to provide that safe and respectful task of 'just listening'.

Listening without judgement - Listening without advice, Listening without interruption, Listening without guilt, Listening without you needing to think about what you say and Listing in support.

If the need or want to talk - simply talk, Counselling could be for you. In both my role as a Counsellor a - I can help you gain an understanding of 'you' and of reminding you that you have a voice that deserves to be heard.

In the focus of therapy, I offer an open and safe environment for you to explore the past, present and the building of your future. Discussions might include family, relationships, work, trauma, identity, health, Social connections, resilience and anxiety and to name but a few, It is for you to determine your own priorities and I offer that safe, confidential and supportive space for you to work through things which may be affecting your own Mental Health and Well-Being.

Contact me for a free - no obligation conversation of how we might work together in support of your well-being. For more information - see my website:

I came across this on the Mental Health Foundation website. Though Counselling as a more direct means of support will often be the best option, day to day understanding of stress and the impact remains an invaluable resource in navigating the challenges of life.

Well worth a look.
