❗️Client Journey Alert❗️

I wanted to share this journey with you because…

- Firstly I’m so proud and happy for them with how far they have progressed - not just in terms of weight loss but in terms of overall lifestyle!

- Secondly, tracking calories doesn’t always have to be the go to option!

In this case, we initially worked on implementing a routine, changing the way foods were perceived i.e. ‘good’ and ‘bad’ and aiming for foods higher in protein.

We were able to build on these initial foundations and develop a more healthy relationship with food, introduce a little exercise and get a good structure around a very sporadic work-life.

Not only that but with no food off limits, takeaways have been enjoyed through out as well as many meals & nights out 🕺🏼🥂

Sometimes, although progress can be slow, setting initial foundations can be the key to long-term success further down the line!

It is important to remember that energy balance is dynamic and changes with your weight, age and activity level. It can also be influenced by many other factors.

Our bodies can be in three different states -

Energy Deficit - when we consume LESS energy (food & drinks) than our body is burning via movement, planned exercise or even through simple bodily functions that help to keep us alive,we lose body fat.

Energy Balance - when we consume THE SAME amount of energy than our body expends.

Energy Surplus - when we consume MORE energy than our body burns.

We consume energy through food and drinks.

Our body expends energy via movement, movements as simple as changes in facial tone and fidgeting all expend energy. Planned exercise, house work and walking also expends energy.
And most importantly, our body expends energy through all of the bodily functions that keep us alive.

If you are looking for help and advise on any of the above, drop me a message and I’d be happy to help 💁🏼‍♀️

Spent the weekend chasing waterfalls and hiking to the highest point in England.

I absolutely love getting outside for a hike! There’s just something about exploring outdoors that feels good for the soul … and how can it not be when you have views like this ☝🏽

Long walks and hikes help to make up for my lack of movement sat at a desk all day in the week…which means a few more calories to enjoy all of the delicious food and drink that I also enjoy so much 🤪

✨SMALL CHANGES EVENTUALLY ADD UP TO HUGE RESULTS✨

Each week when clients check in they not only have the chance to reflect on what has gone well over the past week but also on any improvements they feel they could make.

It is important to remember that nobody is perfect and reflecting back on the week is a great way to determine what could have gone better.

This doesn’t have to be something big or a drastic change, it can be something as simple as trying to walk to the shop instead of driving.

And as the quote says … small changes eventually add up to huge results 🌟

I have just realised that I keep getting out the scales when I make my breakfast even though I’m not actually weighing anything.

This is completely out of habit, I’m now at the stage where I tend not to weigh or track my food and eat mostly ad libitum (I do still like to weigh oats for some reason).

I eat when I’m hungry until I feel full, I enjoy my food and like to get creative with it. I have a takeaway and drink most weekends. I love socialising, going on holiday and eating out 🍸☀️

No food is off limits!

It has taken me a very very long time to get to this stage, and I’ve had to undo years of bad habits and a bad relationship with food and my body.

The point to the story being, tracking can be a great way to educate ourselves around food (if we use it correctly) and I will often recommend it to a client to begin with. But that doesn’t mean it has to be for life.

As people track they will often find that they gain more of an understanding and become more aware of the nutritional content of different foods which can be a great tool for when they feel they no longer want to track.

Sometimes it isn’t a case of stopping altogether, you could start by stopping tracking one meal a day and so on until you get to a point where you feel comfortable.

Many people enjoy tracking and will quite happily do it all the time, but it is important to remember that it shouldn’t have control of your life and stop you from enjoying food and socialising.

Tracking can be a great tool when used correctly and it has helped me to get to where I am today 😁

~🐟Tomato, courgette and feta spaghetti with cod 🐟~

I actually really enjoyed getting in the kitchen and cooking tonight

I’ve been spending quite a few evenings decorating and painting over the last month or so with a poorly week in between. So that’s why I’ve been a little quiet.

Brett has been on cooking duty and he’s been doing 👌🏽 but I must say I’ve been missing it a little bit 👩🏼‍🍳

Prawn, Tomato & Spinach Gnocchi 🦐

Kcals ~ 444 Protein ~ 40g

I’m really proud of this because I made my own gluten free gnocchi … it got a bit messy but it was worth it!

The ingredients below make 4 servings!

Recipe for gluten free gnocchi

~ 400g mashed potato
~130g gluten free plain flour
~1 large egg
~pinch salt

Recipe for prawns & sauce

~800g raw peeled king prawns
~1 x tin of cherry tomatoes
~ two handfuls of spinach (about 100g)
~3 garlic cloves
~60g grana padano
~60g reduced fat green pesto

Method ~

~Make sure the mashed potato is lump free by using a potato ricer or a sieve
~Mix with the flour, egg and salt
~Once the mixture has come together knead for 5 mins
~Cut the dough into 4 small portions, rolling each one into a long sausage shape
~Cut the gnocchi into 2cm pieces and use a fork to create ridge lines
~ Drop the gnocchi into a pan of boiling water, one they rise to the top of the pan boil for a further 2 mins and drain
~Whilst the gnocchi is boiling add chopped garlic cloves and the prawns to a non-stick pan (use a spray oil to keep the kcals down) cook until they turn pink
~ Season with salt & pepper. I also used, tarragon, parsley & paprika (I know some people will be thinking wtf about these spices but I just fully made it up so don’t judge … tasted nice though!)
~Stir in the spinach and let wilt
~Add in the tinned tomatoes, pesto and the grated grana padano and stir thoroughly
~ Once the gnocchi is cooked add it to the pan, allowing to warm through and absorb all of the flavours
~ Serve and enjoy, topping with an optional sprinkle of grana padano ☺️

It sounds complicated but it was actually so easy, it was the gnocchi making which was time consuming - for ease you can buy pre-made gnocchi!!
