Arts Council Grant Awarded for Don’t Hush – Part 2

We’re thrilled to share that we’ve been awarded a generous Arts Council grant, through Sheffield Hospitals Charity to deliver an expanded Don’t Hush creative health programme for parents who have experienced late-pregnancy loss, baby loss, or neonatal death.

Working in partnership with Jessops maternity services’ bereavement midwives and Sheffield Museums, we will offer a series of bespoke creative sessions for mums and their partners. These sessions have been co-designed by people with lived experience to support wellbeing, provide safe spaces to share experiences, and help participants express their stories through creative making.

The programme will culminate in a showcase, bringing together friends, family, and NHS colleagues to celebrate the work created.

Get involved: If you or someone you know could benefit from this programme, we warmly encourage you to take the next step.

👉Email [email protected] to find out more or register your interest.

Sessions begin in September 2026, and spaces are limited—so please get in touch early.

It was a joy to attend the opening of the James West Treatment Centre in Ophthalmology at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital this week.
The new centre also features a fantastic large scale mural which brings colour, interest and wayfinding to the space, incorporating ophthalmologic imagery and combining this with its Sheffield setting.
The mural is by local artist Lisa Maltby Studio and was funded by Sheffield Hospitals Charity. Special shout out also to Victoria, our Arts Coordinator for bringing this project to life.
The new centre was unveiled by Lord David Blunkett, who spoke to Lisa about her design. Feedback about the mural was all hugely positive, with a member of the Reception team coming over to say how well it's been received.
This is what artwork in hospitals is all about, improving healthcare spaces with work that brings joy, reduces anxiety, provides talking points and practical aspects such as wayfinding, and has a meaningful connection to the place.

Session 2 of the Awe, Glimmer & Flow creative health program as part of the Managing Energy Levels course, delivered by and .jansen from the Arts in Health team at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Gell block printing: messy, fun, distraction and the occasional "Aaaawwwwwe - I didn't think that I could do this".

Wonderment or trying something new that may feel a bit scary is one of the things that can surprise us and make us feel better about ourselves.

The group created a beautiful little gallery of pictures using dried leaves and flowers in just under an hour.

We kick-started a brand new patient engagement project: Awe, Glimmer and Flow - working in partnership with the OT team for pain management in MSK at

Managing Energy Levels is a 4-week course for people living with persistent pain, fatigue, brain fog, often accompanied by anxiety and a sense of isolation.

We introduced the 4 P's: Pace, Planning, Priorities and Pleasure. Our joyful creative session focused on collage and badge making.

"It made me think of school when I was young, looking, cutting and sticking - it reminded me of the importance of play".

"I was drawn to images of flowers and greenery - I have been looking forward to seeing the flowers and leaves making a reappearance"

Thanks to Sheffield Hospitals Charity for their continued support to bring creativity into the lives of our patients.

All of our books are donated by members of staff and are free for patients to keep!

As always, we are very appreciative of who fund Arts in Health and the Voluntary Services department and all of the resources we use! 📖📚🌈💙

"Pieces of Us" - a mindful, drop in session for the Spinal Injuries Centre team 🖼️🎨

It was Administrative Professionals day on Wednesday and we worked with the admin team at the Spinal Injuries centre to create "Dutch Tiles" depicting images of anything personally meaningful to each member of staff.

These tiles will be framed and displayed together in the teams workspace, forming a collaborative artwork celebrating the people who work in this newly renovated space.

This project was funded by Sheffield Hospitals Charity and facilitated by the Arts in Health Team. Thanks to Horatio's Garden for allowing us to use their beautiful garden room.

We can't wait to share what these images look like displayed!
