Yesterday, patients got creative and created some artwork for our next patient exhibition, Pick n Mix! 🎨

Inspired by the colourful work of local artist Lisa Maltby ,the exhibition will celebrate fruit, vegetables and all the wonderful shapes, colours and textures found in the world around us. This session also very appropriately took place in our very own Horatio's Garden.

It was brilliant to see patients getting involved, experimenting with different materials and creating their own colourful pieces for the exhibition. We can't wait to see how all the artworks come together! 🍋

Singing in Balance convention at the York Priory Centre today and tomorrow.

We're presenting Singing in Balance today with 3 amazing PhD students from York, Sheffield and Leeds universities and Choir With No Name and Transformative & joyful workshops, energisers, talks & choirs

The research by PhD student Emily Cooper of our Relax, Breathe and Sing sessions will be presented, together with a live taster session delivered by Helen Lyle with whom we have worked for the last 3 years, supported by Sheffield Hospitals Charity

Wonderful to see and hear the impact all of this work, going on everywhere in the UK.

We’ve been busy this morning installing new artwork in two ward bays on P2 at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals 💛

We’re especially delighted to be showcasing the work of two local and much-loved Sheffield artists, Pete McKee and Luke Horton.

Six Pete McKee prints went up in one bay, and six Luke Horton prints in the other. Their colourful, familiar and distinctly Sheffield artwork brings a real sense of warmth, personality and place to the hospital, helping to make what can be an unfamiliar and clinical environment feel a little more welcoming and comforting for patients.

A huge thank you to both artists for their support with the project and for helping us bring these spaces to life.

None of this would’ve been possible without the generosity of a patient who kindly donated to tje department through Sheffield Hospitals Charity, who support staff, patients and visitors across our hospitals.

It’s lovely to see local creativity, generosity and community coming together to make a real difference. 💛

New pictures up at the Royal Hallamshire! Thanks to the support of Sheffield Hospitals Charity, patients and staff in our NIHR department were invited to be part of the process of choosing which photography they would like, and they chose beautifully! A mix of spots we all know and love: Park Hill, the Winter Gardens, the Women of Steel, the Botanical Gardens and central Sheffield. Installed earlier this month to make corridors and rooms feel a bit warmer and less clinical, especially for patients living with dementia. A bit of Sheffield to brighten the day. 💙

Awe, Glimmer and Flow part 2 for our second group of participants who attended the "managing energy levels" course run by the pain clinic at the Royal Hallamshire Sheffield Teaching Hospitals

We did some gell block printing inspired by the french painter Henri Mattise. Towards the end of his life, when painting with brushes on canvas became difficult, Matisse adapted his way of making art. Playing with arranging cut out shapes and colourful card, he became almost more famous for the work he created late in life.

Mini Me - always such fun to deliver this workshop. Designing mini outfits for a small version of yourself.

Today we had 27 ladies from Burngreave - referred to a chronic pain support group by GPs in the Foundry PCN. The session is welcoming and organised brilliantly by SOAR Community Services and Tash Kistnen.

Love the accessory handbags and matching shoes. Nice to hear laughter and chatter in so many different languages. Thanks for all the hugs ladies 🤗 see you soon.

We just started the 2nd Awe, Glimmer & Flow project, part of the brilliant 4-week 'Managing Energy Levels Course, run by the MSK pain clinic Sheffield Teaching Hospitals

The course focuses on four Ps: prioritising, pacing, planning and pleasure/play

In week 1 we covered 'what matters to you' and made collaged badges to introduce the things we value in life.

🌳 Bringing nature inside 🌳

We’ve teamed up with the Ophthalmology team to install stunning tree canopy ceiling artwork in the new theatres at the James West Treatment Centre in Ophthalmology Outpatients, Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals

Patients now look up to views of leaves and branches from below — turning a clinical space into something calmer and more comforting.

* * JOB OPPORTUNITY FOR 3 ARTISTS * *

Earlier this month we announced that we were successful with a fundraising bid to Arts Council England Arts Council England Sheffield Hospitals Charity to deliver our next creative health programme for mums* who have experienced late-pregnancy loss, baby loss or neonatal death.

Don't Hush part 2 will start in October 2026 and we're still looking for 3 artists to help us deliver this. The programme will run over an 18-month period, ending in two exhibitions of work made with and by our participants.
