Heat stroke is a severe form of hyperthermia that occurs when the body overheats, leading to life-threatening complications.

As temperatures rise, it's important to know the signs of hyperthermia and heat-related illness ☀️💙

Hyperthermia happens when your body becomes too hot and struggles to cool itself down. If left untreated, it can become serious and may require medical attention ⚠️
Signs to watch for include:

• Tiredness 🥱
• Muscle cramps 💪
• Swollen feet or ankles 👣
• Feeling sick or being sick 🤢
• A rapid pulse or fast heartbeat ❤️
• Dizziness or feeling light-headed 😵
• Headache 🤯
• A High Temperature 🌡️
• Swollen feet or ankles 👣
• Excessive sweating & skin becoming pale & clammy (a change in skin colour can be harder to see on brown or black skin) 😰
• Feeling irritable 😠
• Being very thirsty 💧

You can help reduce your risk by:
• Drinking plenty of water throughout the day 💧
• Staying in the shade where possible 🌳
• Wearing loose, light-coloured clothing 👕
• Checking on older relatives, neighbours and vulnerable people 👥
• Avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day ☀️

Babies, young children, older adults and people with long-term health conditions can be particularly vulnerable during hot weather 🌡️

If symptoms become severe, worsen, or do not improve, seek medical advice promptly 🩺💙

☀️ Sun is shining and the weather is sweet. But be sun smart 😎

💦 Drink a glass 6-8 times a day - water is great and healthy drinks too!

Visit the NHS website for symptoms of dehydration to look out for and what to do next.

🌞Put on sun cream - everyone should take care in the sun. Read our advice on what to look for when buying and applying sunscreen: https://www.nhs.uk/sun

🐞🦟Warmer weather is enjoyable for many, but it can also mean an increase in bites and stings.

Planning a trip abroad this summer? Don’t forget to check travel health advice and vaccinations before you go 🌍
Different countries can have different health risks, and some destinations may recommend or require vaccinations before travel 💉
Depending on where you’re travelling, you may need protection against illnesses such as hepatitis A, typhoid or yellow fever. It’s best to check as early as possible before your trip so you have enough time to arrange any vaccinations you may need 👍
Your pharmacist may also be able to provide travel health advice, vaccinations and support to help you stay well while you’re away ✈️
If you’re holidaying in the UK, it’s still important to stay safe in the summer sun and look after your health ☀️
Helpful tips include:
• wearing sunscreen and staying hydrated
• packing enough prescription medication
• carrying a basic first aid kit
• checking local weather and travel updates
• remembering insect bite protection if spending time outdoors 🦟
A little preparation can help make your holiday safer and more enjoyable for everyone 💙
