Bonding can be great, but it does have a life cycle and its limitations. This lovely client presented to us with some composites thatโ€™s were about 5 years old and she wanted a refresh.

Given their enjoyment of a nice brew and a decent curry, we opted for a porcelain transformation with crowns and veneers instead of a bonding recycle, with the advantage of increased longevity and reduced maintenance outstripping the higher investment and time to get there, by means of extensive digital smile design and a lengthy Temporary phase.

Every plan and smile journey is bespoke at .smiles.official , with no cookie cutter approach and no rushed jobs.

What is composite bonding?

Composite resin is basically a white filling material we attach to your tooth by sticking it on using bonding agents that help adhere it to the tooth surface.

As such, itโ€™s bonded to your tooth in a variety of ways -be it fillings at the back, edge bonding for chips at the front, composite bonded veneers to change shapes or sizes, composite to attach brackets or attachments and even composite to close the access screws for our implants crowns.

Itโ€™s not a one size fits all and we canโ€™t (ethically) offer it for aesthetic purposes if the bite isnโ€™t ideal or the gums arenโ€™t healthy first.

How can I keep my teeth straight and white?
Wear your retainers , top up your whitening and come to your dental health checks & hygiene visits :)

If you bought a new car; youโ€™d take it for an MOT annually and the same goes for your teeth.

If you do a lot of mileage/randomly hit pot holes or in dental terms have a peculiar diet/chew pens/bite your nails/donโ€™t interdental clean/look after your retainers , then inevitably they may not last as long.

Essix retainers should ideally be replaced annually and fixed retainers will need composite top ups on occasion or replacement too, with a typical life span of 5-10 years, with the highest risk of failure in the first 12 months.

Anyhow, we can sort them out for you :)
