πŸ’œ Loneliness Awareness Week 2026 πŸ’œ

Loneliness is something that can affect anyone, at any stage of life. During Loneliness Awareness Week, we are helping to raise awareness of the impact loneliness can have on both physical and mental wellbeing.

Feeling lonely from time to time is a normal human experience, but prolonged loneliness can affect our health and quality of life. Reaching out to a friend, neighbour, family member, or local community group can make a real difference.

If loneliness is affecting your wellbeing, please know that support is available. Our practice team can help connect you with local services and community resources that may be able to offer support.

πŸ’™ Diabetes Week πŸ’™

Diabetes affects millions of people across the UK, and many others are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes without realising it.

Diabetes Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the condition, encourage healthy lifestyles, and highlight the importance of early diagnosis and ongoing support.

Knowing the signs of diabetes can make a real difference. Symptoms may include:
βœ… Feeling very thirsty
βœ… Needing to urinate more often
βœ… Feeling tired all the time
βœ… Unexplained weight loss
βœ… Blurred vision

If you are concerned about your risk of diabetes or are experiencing symptoms, please contact the surgery for advice.

Small changes to your diet, physical activity, and overall lifestyle can help reduce your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and improve your long-term health.

Find out more about Diabetes Week and access support, information, and resources here:

This Diabetes Week, let's change how we talk about diabetes. 8 out of 10 people living with diabetes say they’ve faced negative attitudes because of their diabetes - people passing judgement, making sweeping statements, or blaming and shaming people living with diabetes. This is diabetes stigma. A...

βœ… Stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle
βœ… Prioritise their mental wellbeing
βœ… Keep up to date with screening and vaccinations

If you have concerns about your health, don't put them off. Our team is here to help.

πŸ’™ Carers Week 2026 | 8–14 June πŸ’™

This week, we are recognising and celebrating the incredible contribution of unpaid carers in our community.

A carer is anyone who provides unpaid support to a family member, friend, or neighbour who is ill, disabled, has a mental health condition, or needs extra help as they grow older. Many people don't realise they are carers and may be missing out on valuable support.

If you are caring for someone, please let us know. We may be able to offer information, advice, and support to help you look after your own health and wellbeing too.

This year's Carers Week theme is "Building Carer Friendly Communities", highlighting the importance of ensuring carers feel recognised, valued, and supported.

Find out more about Carers Week and the support available for carers here:

https://www.carersweek.org/

You’re amazing. Through us all coming together and sharing our support, we can help ensure our communities recognise, understand and value unpaid carers. Your name will soon appear on the Building Carer Friendly Communities wall, once our team has approved your entry.

Enjoying the sunshine? Make sure you’re protecting your skin properly β˜€οΈ

Sunscreen is important, but it shouldn’t be your only line of defence. Wearing suitable clothing, spending time in the shade, and avoiding the sun when it’s strongest (11am–3pm) can all help reduce your risk of sunburn and long-term skin damage 🌀️

When choosing sunscreen, look for:
β€’ SPF 30 or higher to protect against UVB rays
β€’ At least 4-star UVA protection or a UVA symbol in a circle
β€’ Broad-spectrum protection covering both UVA and UVB β˜€οΈ

Don’t forget to apply sunscreen generously about 20–30 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours, especially after swimming or sweating πŸ’§

Even water-resistant sunscreen needs reapplying, as water and towels can remove it more easily than you think 🌊
